Tuesday February 7, 2017 was Grenada’s Independence Day; however, celebrations in the VI began on Sunday February 5, 2017 with a church service at the Transformation International Church, followed by a massive beach picnic and musical entertainment on Long Bay beach.
On Tuesday February 7, the celebration ended with another get together at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground.
President of the Grenada Association of the British Virgin Islands (GABVI), Cletus A. Sylvester told Virgin Islands News Online that the association has been in existence for quite some time but was rekindled some three years now.
The primary objective of the Association is to provide assistance to those in need, both in Grenada and the VI. There are about seven executive members and four floor members in the association.
Culmination of activities
“Today is the day of Grenada Independence, so we are having a get together for those who couldn’t make it to the beach on Sunday,” Mr Sylvester said on February 7, 2017.
He explained that the celebration on Sunday was as a result of the actual Independence Day falling in the week, which would have been difficult to gather everyone, thus, the weekend was a better option.
The celebrations were complemented with lots of food from the Spice Isle.
