Bradford Green, who took star billing in winning the U8’s High Points Trophy, led the eight Makos swimmers in attendance, who won or placed in all of the 32 events entered.
Green copped the High Points Trophy for his perfect score, following gold in the Boys 8 and Under 25M Freestyle, the 100 Individual Medley, 25M Butterfly, 25M Backstroke, 25M Breastroke, and 50M Freestyle.
A stellar performance also came from seven year-old Makos member, Grace O’Reilly, in her debut appearance at the Championships. Grace scored first place finishes in the Girls 8 and Under 25M and 50M Freestyle and the 25M Butterfly races and achieved an overall second-place win in her category.
Other gold medal wins at the weekend event came from Dominic Munro in the Boys 9 – 10 100M Freestyle and 200M Freestyle and Giselle Bowers in the Girls 9 – 10 50M Backstroke and the 50M Freestyle. Dominic came 2nd overall and Lawton Green 3rd overall in the Boys 9 -10 age group.
“It was a great event and we’re tremendously proud of how well each and every Makos member did,” said parent and Vice-President of the Swim Federation, Ross Munro. “The top placement finishes in all races entered indicates just how far competitive swimming has come in the Virgin Islands over the last few years.”
In total, the Makos team brought home eleven gold, sixteen silver and twelve bronze medals.
Seventy-five swimmers from the British and US Virgin Islands participated in the two-day event at the St. Thomas Swimming Association pool.
