Grade 6 student wins 2024 Anegada Lobster Fest Artwork Competition
The top seven winners were announced by the BVI Tourist Board on Friday, September 27, 2024.
Children between the ages of 7 and 12 were invited to express this year’s theme ‘Lobster, Sun & Anegada Fun!’
“Through their imaginative drawings, students incorporated the Caribbean Spiny Lobster, showcasing their unique artistic talents. It was a tough selection process, but we carefully and thoughtfully selected our winners,” the BVI Tourist Board said in a Facebook post announcing the winners.
Record breaking number of entries
According to the BVI Tourist Board, this year’s competition received a record-breaking 82 entries which displayed in the BVI Tourist Board’s conference room for evaluation by staff members.
Coming in second place was Asia-Leigh Llewellyn (Grade 7, Elmore Stoutt High School), third place Tiffany Faulkner (Grade 4, Claudia Creque Educational Center), fourth place Mateo Malone (Grade 5, Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary), fifth place Rebecca Patterson (Grade 4, Valley Day Primary), sixth place D’Khoi Blackmore (Grade 4, Ivan Dawson Primary), and seventh place Alana Singh (Grade 5, Bregado Flax Educational Centre- Primary Division).
The BVI Tourist Board said the evaluation of the pieces were through a structured and engaging selection process that allowed staff to thoroughly assess each child’s artwork, ensuring that the final decisions were based on creativity, effort, and adherence to the theme.
“We are proud of the amazing talent showcased by the participants,” it added.
Great prizes for top 7 young artists
Several great prizes will be awarded to the top seven in this year’s Anegada Lobster Fest Artwork Competition.
The grand prize is a getaway to St. Maarten with two round-trip flights courtesy of Winair, second place will receive a round-trip ferry ticket for two to the Anegada Lobster Festival (inclusive of a delicious lunch), and third place gets a gift certificate for two for an Arts and Craft Adventure at Create BVI.
Other winners will receive prizes to include a guided hike for two with Hike BVI, perfect for nature lovers and a culinary experience for two with Rotiman’s Johnny Cake, where winners can learn the art of making the island delicacy.
The 2024 Anegada Lobster Festival will take place from November 30 to December 1, 2024, and will feature lobster samples and meals from 13 different restaurants.

At least 50% of students are creatively, rather than academically inclined. To that you can add 15% of students who are "gifted" with dyslexia. Above all else, the BVI needs creative thinkers and doers. They are the island's most valuable resource.
