Gov’t probing COVID-19 samples for Omicron variant - Dr Georges

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Acting Chief Medical Officer in the Virgin Islands (VI), Dr Ronald E. Georges said the territory is continuously probing local COVID-19 samples for the Omicron Varient, through the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

Dr Georges made the statements during the December 16, 2021, update on the COVID-19 situation in the territory.

“Currently in the territory, we send samples off the CARPHA on a regular basis, and we have identified both Delta and Mu variants in the territory. We are well aware of how Delta functions. We continue to send samples to look out for the Omicron variant,” he said.

Dr Georges added, “We know that on Omicron variant is more transmissible than the Delta and a lot is not is not yet known about the impact that Omicron, will have on populations.”

Omicron spreading faster - WHO

According to the WHO, Omicron is spreading more quickly than other variants, and based on information, the WHO believes it is likely that Omicron will outpace the Delta variant where there is COVID-19 transmission in the community.

“This is why popular governments all around the world are taking additional efforts, to ensure that we reduce the potential impact of Omicron,” Dr Georges said.

In his appeal to the Virgin Islanders, the acting Chief Medical Officer called for persons to continue their adherence to the local public health measures, which include getting vaccinated or taking a booster shot to protect against the virus.

According to the WHO, being vaccinated and taking precautions such as avoiding crowded spaces, keeping your distance from others, and wearing a mask is critical in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 according to data-backed research that the measures work.

      You don’t realize how nonsensical you sound.
      Omicron is spreading like wildfire in a dry season. To the vaccinated as well as the vaccinated. The unvaccinated are the ones most likely to suffer more serious symptoms, including hospitalization and, sadly, death.
      So sad, when we have masks and vaccines to help stop the virus from spreading and further mutating.

    The O variant was caused by the fully vaccinated. They started to mix boosters with different vaccines and here we are today.
    Now they want you to take two vaccines that didn’t work then a booster that doesn’t work. By the time a person takes his first shot you all will be on Chook #10 going. We will never catch up lol.

    A retired immunologist out of Germany said this would happen if they come up with a V amidst a pandemic , he said it early in the pandemic that they are making a mistake and I am now watching everything he said playing out right before my eyes. He said they should isolate the sick and vulnerable and allow the healthy to live and work as normal and that would eventually weakened the virus. He also said if you v that would give the virus time to mutate. But I guess that way is too cheap for the billionaires.     Gov't dont need to probe covid-19 samples, They just need to send the health minisitry police boat behind the fully vax cruise ship that left the bvi a few days ago and take the outbreak passengers sample to lieing carpha.(Why was this variant published many months before an outbreak and why are there many more variants with names up until 2023?New protocol for all schools and college's for 2022 is that common sense classes must be added and all graduates must pass this subject. If you fail maths and english but you pass common sense class, you will be awarded your diploma.     The vaccines that we took when we were kids was not MRNA and they went through propper clinical trials.The Vaccines back then did its job well so please follow the data. This new counterfeit so called vax does not stop transmission but imagine it sheads the virus.
