ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Government offices are expected to be opened by 11:00 AM today, Monday, November 11, 2024, following heavy rainfall overnight.

According to a circular from the Office of the Deputy Governor, a coordinated response to ensure office spaces are ready for service has been initiated.

“Senior Managers and Department Heads are directed to assess their office spaces as soon as possible. Barring any weather-related concerns or significant damage, all offices should be prepared to open by 11:00 a.m. to facilitate regular operations as soon as possible following the road clearance message from the PWD.”

The Public Works Department (PWD), it added, is working to clear areas affected by the effects of the heavy rainfall.

Safety remains the priority

The circular added that it is recognised that some officers may need time to address personal or family impacts due to the severe weather and therefore, “Department Heads are encouraged to activate the Flexible Working Arrangement Policy to support remote work, wherever feasible. This also applies to officers whose children are at home today.”

With the end of the Atlantic Hurricane Season approaching, it continued, “Your safety remains our highest priority”.

The Deputy Governor’s Office also encouraged updates from the Department of Disaster Management to be monitored and for all to proceed with caution during the day.

    “PITCH IS TO CRICKET”
    by Tafari Zharr

    “pitch is to cricket
    what good governance
    is to politics
    like two sides
    of the same man”

    In cricket the pitch is
    a prepared rectangular area
    between two wickets,
At each end of the pitch
    the bowler bowls and
    the batsman plays
    Time Waits On No-One:
    The Valued Umpire
    calls the game
    may make strikers and
    bowlers shame but
    he brought humor and
    fundamentals to the game:
    Ralph took to the fields
    wearing protective shield
    strapped to his left arm;
    His Clothing Was White:
    His Falls Were Neither Broken
    On “Consecrated” Dead
    Dusty, or Green:
    So Unequivocal:
    “You are What You
    Wear in Cricket and
    “You Are What You Pitch”-
Of mirrors, Of man, Of Courage,
    Commitment, and Confidence
    That Closeness with Constituents
    Cheated him of Connections
    taken for granted
The Struggle of a Valued Umpire:
    Is the bowler bowling correctly?
Yet A fork in the ground,
    an investment, a story,
    an ideal, Or a dream!
    Fading Beams
    Into A Stream of Light
    An influential Virgin Islander,
    A Political Virtuoso,

    “pitch is to cricket
    what good governance
    is to politics;
    like two sides
    of the same man”

It's times for government offices return to the administration complex, from skeleton building them in fish Bay. This is long overdue.
