Gov't offices to close tomorrow except essential services

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- All government offices will be physically closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, except essential services, due to Tropical Storm Ernesto.

In the circular from the Governor’s Office today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, all departments are to activate the full Remote Working Policy. 

In order to prepare for the physical shutdown tomorrow, Senior Managers and Department Heads have been asked to allow flexibility with officers for the remainder of the day. They’ve also been advised to activate Office Contingency Plans and secure all office premises.

Ernesto to impact VI tonight into Wednesday

The latest update from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said Tropical Storm Ernesto is currently 169 miles east-southeast of Road Town, moving west-northwest at approximately 18 miles per hour. The storm has slightly intensified and is expected to pass near the Virgin Islands later tonight into tomorrow.

The circular also urges people to prioritise their safety and well-being as well as that of their families.

    CLOSED ???? HOPE IT DON'T SUFFER THE SAME FATE AS - THE CULTURAL CENTER OR THE OLD POST OFFICE OR PROSPECT REEF , NOT TO MENTOON THOSE LOVELY POTHOLES THAT

    Funny how all the “essential”workers are all the workers on the lower end of the government’s pay scale. Hope they getting that essential worker’s pay.

    Just a storm a storm not a hurricane just a storm and BVIEC cannot withstand it. A mere storm and 6am no electricity back on yet
