ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) will soon be getting shiny new vehicles on the public purse, even as the force has been accused of poor performance under the leadership of current Commissioner of Police, Mark Collins.

In a notice today, October 25, 2023, the Government of the Virgin Islands has invited Tenders for the Supply of six (6) Vehicles for the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force. The notice added that the invitation to tender is open to all locally based automobile dealers in the Virgin Islands.

“The aim of this Agreement is to provide six (6) vehicles for use by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF): Tenderers participating in the procurement process shall provide proof that company/individual is in good standing with respect to taxes (payroll and property), duties, social security and national health insurance contributions, company registration, or payments due to the Government of the Virgin Islands.”

The notice also added that the certificates of goods standing can be obtained from the Director of Social Security Board and NHI, the Commissioner of Inland Revenue and Company Registry where dealers must also meet other requirements.

RVIPF deserves new vehicles?

It remains unclear the type of vehicles to be purchased or whether the vehicles will be for police patrol or assigned to bigwigs like Top CoP Mr Collins or to UK Police officers stationed in the VI.

The RVIPF has faced strong criticisms over VI’s growing crime rates despite the presence of UK Officers who have been the subject of scandals including police harassment, partying on the cays using government vessels, racism, and having an alleged witch-hunt list.

Earlier in the year on Saturday, July 22, 2023, a confiscated vessel in a cocaine seizure operation was deliberately set ablaze in an evidence-destroying mission right in the compound of the RT Police station.

While Police officials confirmed the incident, they did not say how criminal elements managed to breach the security of a main Police station and destroy important evidence in an ongoing investigation.

With the support of the Premier and the Gov. 6 vehicles at 300 gran then another 50 gran annually for gasoline. These people are living a royal life off of tax payers labour, a mean if they were performing most of us won't oppose but they are not performing.. Who's to be held responsible for the non performance, non visibility of the police? All we get are excuses for yrs. They want more officers they get more officers. They want more equipment they get more equipment. This is like a game. We have other priority matters that need to address. As it is police has enough to do their job..Let them Get to work. We need to see them. We need results. Imaging over 300 officers..We heading backwards.

We all should support the RVIPF. What is wrong with.buying six new vehicles for our own country force? Nothing is. Billions of dollars over the have been misspent, and unaccounted over the last 25 years or there about. Why should we even think of not buying the needed tools (new vehicles) for our own police department? A new vehicle is better than an old one. Yes, it cost more, but it will give better service, and last longer.
Support the RVIPF. Our RVIPF is our only physical crime fighting force available in the B.V.I.

Thank you. This ain’t no concert the money is being spent on. I think it’s for a good cause and I don’t see the an issue with it. Are they suppose to utilize the same old vehicles forever?

There are revenue departments who even can't get 1 vehicle this is simply the UK sucking our treasury dry for UK officers, people I pray for you to wake up.

Are these departments you speak of going on high speed chases over hills etc in pursuit of criminals? The vehicles are being used for what pick up breakfast lunch run little errands throughout the day to then get park in a different person yard every weekend? Nobody need to wake up you just need to think.

Of course the vehicles is needed, however the drivers have a responsibility to care for them.......look @ the status of those they got a few years back.

This is not a solution. This is more a luxury. We have twice as much officers now than we had 20yrs ago. We need to see them on the streets patrolling day and night in group of 2s. I was a cop and we always patrol, we always on the streets night and day making ourselves visible and interacting with the community. I hated the idea of patrolling the streets alone at nights. We had to do it, so I will never agree to have one officer on the streets alone especially at nights, they should be in group of 2s. . The police now seems like an office job. Only when something happens you see them regularly on the streets and that only last for a month then they become scarce until something happen again. The police needs to better utilized and maximized the resources they have. Show us results. Everyone gets comfortable playing the blame and excuses game...Better managers, supervisors and investigators are what needed, not vehicles..

They are too busy going after the hit list and a few police officers. Actual performance doesn't seem to matter to Mark Collins

Just three years ago the government bought the police dam near 25 cars. What are they doing with them? They need to give an account for these vehicles.

I have a nice Subaru I’ll make a good deal on. It’s got a great stereo but has a little trouble getting over speed bumps.

  • The Enemies Within. Be very careful with the UK agenda, including their vetting process. We need more foot patrols, not more luxury patrols. Period! (26/10/2023, 09:36) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
