ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the August deadline fast approaching for the Government of the [British] Virgin Islands to deliver reforms forced upon it by the United Kingdom (UK) following recommendations by a one-man Commissioner of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI), Governor Daniel Pruce recently met with the Attorney General Hon Dawn J. Smith and her team regarding meeting the deadline.

“The Governor had a great discussion with the Attorney General and her team last week, including on how best to deliver the COI by the end of August,” the Governor’s Office posted on its Facebook page on July 5, 2024.

According to the same post, “The Governor thanked them for their dedication and hard work to build a better future for the Virgin Islands.”

Gov’t ‘confident’ of meeting August deadline

The deadline for the full implementation of the reforms have been extended several times after both the government and the Office of the Governor failed to meet the deadlines.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said on May 31, 2024, that he was optimistic his government would able to achieve the new August 31, 2024, deadline for the full implementation of reforms coming out of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) in the VI.

“I'm confident that we will achieve the recommended deadline, jointly agreed. I'm also pleased that we can continue our current working arrangement without additional powers being granted to the governor,” Dr the Hon Wheatley stated at a press conference.

So the Governor met the AG and staff to discuss meeting deadline. What would be interesting to know is if this clown met with them before he committed to this deadline. I'm pretty sure the answer is NO. Now if the amount of work required can't be done by the end of August, who should we hold accountable if the UK takes further action?

Thought it was to discuss upcoming corruption charges . These Governors are bending over backwards, doing everything not to suspend, but the Government ain serious, people are saying seems like the Premier want Britain step in and take over, its too much for him, then he will become an administrator under Britain rule...

How sure are you that they will be allowed to come back? Be careful what you wish for. The first motion in the House of Commons was just after Panama Papers. It was a straight take over and rule motion because we are seen as no bigger than the average English with 40k people. That motion proposed that English citizens be able to come and work with no special permission required. Will YOU have a job after we are taken over? Think about it!!! Still want them to take over?

Uk stop playing with them they think it’s a joke, not much has changed since the COI, and nothing is going to change unless you take over for at least 2 years after that have an election and don’t aloud the same people to run.

We need to break away from the resemblance of our colonial past. Pity we still mentally enslaved, many of us who want to see the colonial master use his whip once more. That’s why I admire the young leaders of West Africa who have taken a stand against modern day colonialism.
