ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “Mental health and mental wellness is not something to ignore. We are one incident, one experience, and one situation away from not feeling overall well,” Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr stated in a public message on mental health awareness on May 31, 2024.

According to Mr Archer Jr, who is currently acting as Governor, many times individuals and public officers don’t stop to realise the importance of rest, taking time to spend time with families, or even being aware of how they are feeling overall.

“So, to managers and supervisors, pay attention to how your employees are doing. Yes we work hard and we want to ensure a great output, but make sure they are doing well. Make sure they take breaks.”

‘Go to the beach on weekends’

Mr Archer Jr also pleaded with public officers to take responsibility for their mental wellbeing.

“Public officers, take your lunch, step away from your desk, spend time, find outlets. On the weekends, go to the beach. Do something to put yourself in a better place, because a healthy public service requires our bodies, our minds, our souls and definitely our mental health to be a priority.

“So, let’s take it seriously and ensure we keep each other safe and overall well within the public service,” Mr Archer Jr stated.

We’ll, I did it twice this past weekend bro, and I sure felt good and slept peacefully both nights after those afternoon long soak/swims!

Indeed, good advice, for mental health is an important part of our physical health and well-being. Government can help its employees health and well- being by provide affordable health services, provide a safe, secure healthful working environment. Gov can you provide space and sleep tents so that employees can take a break during the day to for employees to rest and get refueled.

To Stealth, you are a wild dude with a vivid imagination , ie, a Sleep Tent? The public sector is already at a low productivity level and this idea would drag it down further.,Yes, some progressive and forward looking organizations have sleep tents but the BVI public sector is not ready for this. By the way, you were talking good up to the sleep tent suggestion then you went clean off the rail, taking some moo moos with you.

Legalize cannabis already. It was to be for common therapeutic use. Everyone allowed 1 gram without registration.

Bad day but not a regular user. Death in the family, break up. That 1 gram was for you. Better than hitting the bottle & bar.

No rest for the weary boss i'm glad to hear and see you speaking out and up on this issue. Mental health is a serious issue in the BVI. In homes, work places, in the communities and its a very thin line many don't understand. Please lets try to take care of each other and try our very best to take care of our own health. No one can do it except your self. The challenges are real. Be good to your self.

The beach is a very soothing place to go. After getting out of the water, lay on a towel, close your eyes, and listen to the ocean. You might fall asleep from a much-needed rest to calm your nerves. It's wonderful.

Beef Island is not the only beach knucklehead! Well Bay, Josiah's Bay, Brandy Wine Bay, or any beach you choose. Stop complaining and start soaking.
