Go back to your country if you want to change VG Easter Festival date- Flax-Charles

The annual Easter Festival features street parades, a beauty pageant, and various parties. It begins on Good Friday, April 20, 2025, and runs for the entire Easter weekend.
Mrs Flax-Charles said this during the Ninth District Meeting hosted by District Representative Hon Vincent O. Wheatley at St. Mary’s Hall on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, where she accused those who want to change the date of the annual festival as being immigrants into the Virgin Islands.
“Those who are adamant that it should be changed they should try to change it in the country that they are born first before they come here,” she stated.
Mrs Flax-Charles also informed that she has a Facebook page dedicated to this cause called ‘Keep Virgin Gorda Easter Festival at Easter’.
Bring the message to the masses- Flax-Charles
“I know that there is a movement out there wanting us to change our traditional festival. I want to say…bring your message to the masses of the people,” she continued adding that the mission should be to bring sinners into the fold of the Lord by going where they are.
While referring to herself as a “devout Christian”, Mrs Flax-Charles said the Easter Festival is part of Virgin Gorda’s tradition and culture.
Mrs. Flax-Charles also acknowleged that there are some Virgin Gordians who want to change the festival’s date as well.
“Let’s not divide the population over our culture and something that started before most of us were born. Keep Virgin Gorda Festival at Easter,” she pleaded.
Make funds available for the festival committee sooner- Flax-Charles
Mrs Flax-Charles also made a plea for the sister island’s festival committee to receive its funding from the government earlier.
“I’ve been making a plea for probably 20 years for the Festival Committee on Virgin Gorda to be funded in advance. I understand the budget cycle, and it’s January to December however, it is very, very difficult…to get anything done in January, you can’t commit,” she explained.
It was revealed that the committee had yet to receive its funding.
In 2027 she reminded the meeting, the 60th anniversary of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival will be celebrated.
“We need to do better by the committee and the past committees to fix that so that by September we’re able somehow we must find a way to have some sort of funding available for the committee before January or February or March,” Flax-Charles stated.

Her point is. Non Virgin Islanders should not have a say. This is her point and I agree with her.
Your behavior or tone base on your comment makes me think that you are entitled . You are not entitled! Stop this behavior where you guys think you can come here and dictate our culture and get into our politics. Stay out! Hold your lane!

Here we have a situation where a politician wants to determine if the territory should have independence, again let our people vote on the matter
The opinion of the people should be the way forward in these modern times
