Gift of mangoes lands ‘child-father’ in court
According to allegations, Benjamin’s ‘child mother’, the Virtual Complainant (VC), secured her home on July 17, 2013 and went out to run errands with their daughter.
Upon her return, she reportedly discovered some mangoes on the table at her home. She at first thought nothing of them, suspecting that her current boyfriend had brought them home.
Later that day, the defendant allegedly asked if she had gotten the mangoes he had left and this annoyed the VC who began to quarrel with him.
She then reportedly threatened to tell his wife and inform her that he had broken into her (VC’s) house.
The court heard that this reportedly enraged Benjamin, who lives next door, and he allegedly entered the home uninvited and rushed at the VC with a machete.
A report was subsequently made to the Police and Benjamin allegedly said: “she is my child mother” and also stated that he couldn’t go and see her. He reportedly told Police that he didn’t have a machete and was only trying to scare her.
Benjamin, who told the court that he works at Nanny Cay and fixes boats, was offered $40,000 signed bail with one surety. He was instructed to have no direct contact with the VC and ordered not to harass her in any way.
He will return to court on January 16, 2014.
