GREAT HARBOUR, Jost Van Dyke, VI- The Family Support Network (FSN), the Virgin Islands’ non-governmental organisation working to fight domestic violence, received a donation of supplies last month, December 2015, courtesy of the Jost Van Dyke School.

Principal, Ms Lavern Blyden said that the school had decided to support the Dominica response and relief efforts. She said, due to overwhelming support from various organisations and other commonwealth countries, the school was informed that items were no longer being accepted for distribution.

Ms Blyden said, “In an attempt to distribute the collected items, we were told that no more stuff was being sent to Dominica. Hence, we contacted the Family Support Network. I made contact with Ms Judith Charles and we made arrangements to conduct the handing over of the supplies to the organisation.”

Principal Blyden expressed that she was excited to make the presentation to the local organisation and added that the students were happy to be to be able to give to someone so that they could have a wonderful holiday.

She said, “We are not making any promises, but we will definitely consider continuous drives so that we can give back to others. I strongly believe that charity begins at home and it’s a great initiative for the students to be a part of.”

At the handover ceremony, FSN Board President, Ms Judith Charles also spoke to staff and students of the Jost Van Dyke School about the functions of the organisation. The supplies donated by the school will go towards victims of domestic violence who have sought emergency housing and other services from the organisation.

The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to support the Jost Van Dyke School and its donating efforts.

For more information about the Jost Van Dyke School persons should contact Ms. Lavern Blyden at 495-9238 or 468-9461.
