ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Charitable organisation Family Support Network (FSN) has fallen victim to burglary.

According to reports reaching our news centre, the FSN office located on Challwell Street was broken into at the weekend.

This was confirmed on social media by President of the Board of FSN Judith M. Charles.

“Family Support Network was broken into over the weekend. Our phone 542 2085 was stolen. If you need to reach FSN please call 499 0999,” Charles stated on Facebook on August 28, 2023.

It is unclear what else was taken and how the burglar/s managed to gain entry to the building, as Ms Charles did not respond to our request for a comment.

The burglary reportedly comes at a time when FSN is struggling to keep its pantry stocked to meet the demands of vulnerable persons in the community.

This incident and others are clear signs that the country and the people that reside here are experiencing significant difficult times. No seriously, think about it. How low a person must be in life to steal from FSN?!?! My people. It is far beyond the point where we have to seriously do something about our country. We have elected persons who do not care about us or the development of our country, I do not have to provide examples as this is blatantly clear! But, as always, nothing will be done and people will forget *SIGH*. But as the US and its currency steadily continue to lose global power, I wonder, what poor third-world countries such as the BVI will survive this great shift in world power? I would suggest to the "Powers that Be" to focus on food security and implementing strategies to strengthen or economy. Focus on advancing the industries that support our economy and find new opportunities for the people!

If you are in so bad a way, why not reach out to the FSN for help? Or, if you are set on stealing, why not steal food? This appalling act has nothing to do with difficult times and all to do with sheer wickedness.

This is a wicked act. This is not good. FSN helps a lot of people and do not deserve this happening to them.

I bet the perpetrators(s) was not even needy. A truly needy person would have come in through the front door, not through the window. In addition to not being needy, the perpetrator(s) is sick. Undoubtedly, there is growing need in the BVI for charitable donations and assistance. Some of this need is from some of us hanging our hat where we cannot reach it or pushing our head where our body cannot pass. Moreover, the BVI is too dependent on government. Where has the rugged individualism gone???

The BVI people and the Govt have allowed the UK to brand them as corrupt and criminal for helping its people. The BVI was never at this stage. It is VERY BAD with many people pretending that all is well. There are a lot of hungry struggling people and will schools reopening now it will get even harder but we continue to play politics.

Do note that FSN helps abused persons & families. They communicate closely with Police, Hospital etc on various matters. We know a phone was stolen. Suppose there is an ongoing matter that perhaps someone don't want to get exposed......they steal the phone & who knows what else....to get rid of the evidence. So it may or may not be about food. I trust & hope their files are well secured. Lets await further update.

Not condoning the thief’s behavior. They are a lazy bum looking for the easy way out at the expense of others. But, to those who commented about taking food, where in the article did you read food was taken? This is a thief who stole a phone. They obviously weren’t desperate for food.
That said, and totally off the subject of the thief, I agree, our government must do something about the high prices of food. That consumer protection legislation never got passed with the owner of one supermarket being in the HOA for donkey years. Now with another family member sitting, it still won’t ever get passed. Why must supermarkets have price differences for the same product, same brand, with as much as a $4.00? Who is looking out for the consumers? We are like a third world country as well with the selection of some of the products. What other countries reject, the BVI purchases for next to nothing to feed to us like we are pigs in a pig pen. Must we get to the streets to get a change? Enough is enough.
