Free Professional Development Series for Educators
The series was developed in collaboration with the Institute of Education at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC). The series which began in September 2024 and will continue through January 2025 is designed to equip educators with the latest tools, strategies, and knowledge to meet the ever-evolving needs of their students.
In press release from the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports on Friday, October 11, 2024, Acting Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Orlandette R. Crabbe said, “Professional development for educators remains a top priority, as we continue our commitment to reimagining education in the Virgin Islands,” Mrs. Crabbe said. She added, “By investing in our teachers, we ensure they are equipped with the most up-to-date tools and strategies to meet the evolving needs of their students."
Series offered free of charge
The professional development opportunities will be offered to educators free of charge, underscoring the ministry’s dedication to making continuous learning accessible and impactful.
Sessions cover a wide range of critical topics including innovative teaching techniques, classroom management strategies, technology integration, and student engagement practices and will be offered in a multi-part format.
Participants are set to gain access to new insights, actionable strategies, and valuable resources, all aimed at improving student outcomes. Additionally, the series will foster peer collaboration and the exchange of experiences, encouraging a culture of professional growth within the teaching community.
HLSCC honoured to collaborate with Education Ministry
Newly appointed Director of the Institute of Education, Mr. Stephen Joseph said, "We are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to empower educators in the Virgin Islands. The Institute of Education is dedicated to empowering teachers through innovative and inclusive education practices.”
He added that part of HLSCC’s mission is to prepare teachers who are not only professionally skilled but also advocates for social justice and community engagement.
“This Professional Development Series exemplifies our commitment to fostering teaching excellence and improving educational standards across the Territory,” Mr. Joseph stated.
Mrs. Crabbe also shared her appreciation for the partnership, stating, "Collaboration between the Ministry and the Institute of Education has proven invaluable in building the capacity of our educators.
