CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- Former Second District Representative Mr J. Alvin Christopher has endorsed Independent Second District Candidate Mr Troy E. Christopher for the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at Mr Christopher’s official campaign launch at Myett’s Restaurant in Cane Garden Bay on April 1, 2023, the former legislator Christopher said he is offering someone who has the ability, patience and the know-how to move the District forward; as he contended that the job is not for the faint-hearted but people who are humble, dedicated and focused on their country’s development.

The current Representative is Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) candidate Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, who has already served two terms.

'I have no problem passing on what I learned' to Troy- J. Alvin Christopher

Mr Christopher, who was the Second District Representative from 1995 until the 2015 general election, recalled 30 years ago when he had his first campaign rally, which he noted took him on a 20-year-plus journey.

“I see Troy is following in my footstep. I’m going to try to see if I can reduce my steps so that he can catch up with me, because I have no problem in passing on what I learned…gained over the years,” he said.

He opined that while some progress was made, 8 years ago when he stepped away from the political scene everything that was gained over that period is now gone, but noted that Troy has a plan and a programme to revitalise the community.

“And it seem like all the cry and all the progress that we have made has returned, and the cry are even louder now than then. So, I come this evening to bring to you…no other than Troy Christopher.

“I am asking you, the people of this Second District, as you have given me your support…to please, please give Troy your support on April 24th. When you go to the polls vote Troy …I want you to understand something, there are three nice young people who have offered themself for this District…but the truth in fact is the BVI at this present time is in trouble…,” the former legislator said, suggesting that Troy E. Christopher may be the most suitable to lead.

'Dark days are here'

“Now for those of you who know me and have been around me you know I’ve been saying this for a while that we have some dark days ahead, those dark days are here now. Where we are as a country and as a nation is in doubt and believe you me you must have a person who is fit for this job,” he added.

According to Mr J. Alvin Christopher, the community needs someone who is not concerned about what others may say or think about them, but someone who is serious about making a difference.

“It’s not about who I like or who is my friend or my family, it’s about making serious decisions and the decision that is before this country right now I can tell you is gonna get worst if we go forward with the same mentality- worrying about what somebody says about you or what somebody didn’t say about you. You gotta grow up…,” he said.

Pointing to the cries of residents in Cane Garden Bay whom he noted have highlighted issues such as dysfunctional community centres, Mr Christopher urged people to use wisdom, knowledge and understanding while voting as this is a “very crucial” election.

Second district, wake up! Ignore the bawling and snorting of our present representative as he seems desperate to get re-elected. Eight years is more than enough. What he could of done, he did not want to do. Now he there trying to do quick fix trying to win people's votes then ignore them after he gets in. Let's ditch his sorry self.

What has troy done in the D2 community before seeking to be elected, much yet what has he done in the BVI community? Also he is stating that the community centers have been not repaired, But not pointing out that the school in meyers fully buuilt, and the one in JVD being built and the one in CGB renovated but need does need more work.

He was in the NDP, and literally did nothing as President. Ineffective, he just loves to talk, talk, talk, and talk so more.

No politician can take credit for thr Enis Adams School. The facility was constructed and funded by a lone citizen rest his soul, Mr. Handcraft. All that he did, what extra did the government do to complete it besides some hurry work to accommodate the Althea schatliffe School students. Everybody want credit

He didn't have to do anything. That's why we have a representative for the people. What had Mitch done in the district before he was elected? Absolutely nothing! The 2nd district is in a state, and with all that needs to be fixed eight years, could have done something instead of nothing.

Just take a look at his plan; furthermore, listen to his campaign speech and hear what he has contributed to this territory. He is not a just come, just a humble man trying to make the 2nd district and territory the envy of the Caribbean and a unique addition to Nature's Little secrets.

Honourable, trying to fix the roads in Spooners Estate now isn't going to sway us, the voters. Stop hiding behind the veal. What would have been more fitting is if you had shown up with the Backhoe in Spooners instead of putting the work on someone else to carry on your name. Once again, this representation is unacceptable! Your non-visibility in Spooners until every 4 years says it all.

Politics 101 seek and sustain family support. Family is often the major source of leaks. Here it is uncle supporting nephew; it is all good.

Troy held a basketball camp thing for youths in CGB, and complained about the community centers, but didnt appreciate he was playing on a court the same Mitch, has redone the last couple months.

This court is in the school yard, not always accessible. That is not the public court. The poor children had to clear out before dark since there was no lights. Pitiful.

The court does not belong to Mitch. The same court he played on when Alvin was in power, so I don't see your point. It is horrifying that the only court they could have played on was there. When he did the other court in Meyers, he had the nerve to put his name on it but thank God someone pound some sense into him and he had to remove it. What you do for the district is with the taxpayers' money, not yours. Just tell us what he did with that $900,000, that's what I want to know from here talking piss.

I think some people don't understand or don't care to realize that if you are district rep, it does not give you automatic right or funds to execute each and every project you propose for your district. Your plans have to be agreed on and funds have to be provided so that makes it a little harder for reps to fulfill their hopes for their district. I'm not saying Mitch is perfect but he has done things for his district and is always heard fighting for JVD and other areas in his district. So saying he did not is quite reckless to say. Maybe he could have done more in his time if given the opportunity and funds to but do we feel like the other candidates can make more happen in the district??? I dont know. But I will continue listening to each to decide who is best for the district.
