First District family to storm VG tomorrow Sat. Oct. 5
"This is a continued effort to unite our people of the First District," Hon Fahie told Virgin Islands News Online.
The day of togetherness and fun will be three fold; the first phase is a free boat ride from Soper's Hole Jetty/West End dock to Virgin Gorda. The second would see a First District delegation supporting two of its teams as they compete in the Jeffery Caines Memorial 2013 Summer Jam Basketball league. The third would be the fun-filled free ride back to Tortola.
Hon. Fahie said the boat ride is not restricted to residents of the First district. "It’s opened to everyone, anyone can come. It’s Smith's Ferry and it leaves Soper's Hole promptly at 6:45 P.M.”
The two First District teams that would be featuring in the tournament tomorrow night would be Off the Corner and a 40 years and over squad that would be competing against players of the same age range from Virgin Gorda. The Tortola team is named 'Oldie Goldie'.
While the boat ride is totally free, persons are asked to walk with $3 for an adult and $1 per child as a donation to the Virgin Gorda Basketball Association.
"As the First District Representative, I understand my role and I take it very seriously. Over the years we have done many things to unite the First District and the territory but the concentration being First District in all the initial stages seeing that you are the representative," Hon. Fahie told the Virgin Islands News Online.
The First District stands out as one that is very tight knitted and very supportive of its youth.
Over the past months there were a number of activities that were organized and executed for youth through maximum backings from Hon. Fahie and his team. He noted that most of the activities were sports related.
"Sports, as it has always been, is a unifying entity and we will use that where we can, particularly in the first district, to create a one-ness and a unity and celebrate the areas which we have in common rather than exploit the areas where we have our differences," noted Hon. Fahie.
While commending the organisers of the basketball tournament for a job well done in maintaining the tournament and keeping the youth together and focussed, Hon Fahie said it is not strange that the First District is participating.
"We always, from the First District, have supported them over the years.”
