BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- With the 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival successfully held, the public is now waiting to hear what the financial numbers look like.

“The reports are being complied as we speak. I know we have had some follow up meetings, some debriefings with various sub-committees for festival up to late last week, up to Friday, and we rely on them to submit their reports. Of course, the financials, the numbers for the most part are in but, of course, there are just a few committees that submitted invoices a bit late,” Events Manager of the BVI Tourist Board Mr Dirk L. Walters stated while a guest of Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM on Monday, September 23, 2024.

‘Efficiency’ of BVITB Accts Dept highlighted

Mr Walters assured that the financial report will be available much faster than previous years.

“So once those final things are compiled and we have all the reports in, the numbers will be there and I can guarantee you it’s going to be a lot faster than before, because, like I said, there are positives in everything and one positive I see in dealing with the Tourist Board is the efficiency of the accounts department, in terms of having that accountability and transparency there.”

Nothing that “everything is basically computerised”, Mr Walters said there is a database that was created that can give real-time access and transparency.

“That report is going to be forthcoming very soon,” Mr Walters assured.

Well - when (if) that happens, it will be another embarrassment for the Premier - his failed Road Town Music Festival took place before the Emancipation Festival, and there is still no sign of any accounts from that disaster. Why would that be?

@Really not one word up as to whether that party was successful. I like the Premier, but I must say that he is doing a lot of NONSENSE and I fear a UK takeover in 2025. LORD HAVE MERCY ON US!

Just after 12:30am heard about 5 gunshots in the Town area then 2 minutes later a machine gun with a continuous spray of bullets was heard that lasted about 10 seconds with a car speeding off.

@@WHAT!!! He should be ashamed, but I doubt he is. So many things he and his mentor have done are cause for shame, but they don't appear to feel that way.

The Premiers music fest was a flop. There was no need for that fest to take place.

Paying $150,000 for one artist to hardly perform makes financial sense.
