Finally! Roy L. O’Neal honoured @ VG Easter Fest
In receiving his honour, Mr O’Neal said he participated in all 52 parades while imploring revellers to, “Come out and enjoy yourselves… behave yourselves and no violence please.”
The Queen Mary
“Over the years I think I have participated in every single parade with my bike which I decorated every year. My bike for the last 10 years I named 'The Queen Mary' after one of the world’s best cruise ships,” he told those at the gathering.
“Like I say, I have seen the stars before many of you... I was there when [the] festival was at St Mary’s Ground, Fire Field, the Market Square, by Admin Complex and by the Marina and now here at the recreational ground.”
With glee, O’Neal said he wished his mother, the late Elaine O’Neal aka Nenee Elaine was present to witness and share the honour.
Those present were reminded that he was selected for the honouring last year, 2018, however, because of major scaling down of the planned activities, the honour was brought forward to 2019.
Bittersweet
“In 2018 when I was first approached to have the village name after me, the privilege was bittersweet because I would later learn that there would be no village or honouree because our Easter Festival was scaled back last.”
He said, “When Ms Lyra George approached me again this year, I happily accepted. I said to myself, what God don’t want the angels can’t have. I had to wait an extra year but I did not fret because it was my time,” a happy O’Neal further said.
The first of two nights of the festival saw several local and international acts blazing the stage. These include Calypsonian King Paido, Tino and the Hardcore Band along with Monae, Dexta Daps and the OMG Band who all kept the crowds alive.
