USVI man gets 8 mths for burglarising post office

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI - District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez today, July 6, 2017 sentenced Selmo Watts, 34, of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) to eight months in prison and three years of supervised release for burglarising a post office, Acting United States Attorney Joycelyn Hewlett announced.
USVI man suspected of killing 36-year-old arrested

CHRISTIANSTED, St Croix, USVI — Police have arrested a 62-year-old man suspected to have shot to death, 36-year-old Gregory Barnes at around the seven o’clock hour near the Watergut shanty on Saturday night, July 1, 2017 [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD), Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Sunday morning. The arrest came just over 8 hours following shooting.
‘US’ type gang culture present in VI – CoP Matthews
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The incidents of fatal shootings in the territory as of recent times are linked to gang rivalry, which Commissioner of Police, Michael Matthews, attributes to a ‘US’ type gang culture now present in the [British] Virgin Islands. He added that the rivalries are mainly linked to drugs and guns.
