SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- When Ellis Thomas Downs, the home of horse racing in the [British] Virgin Islands, was extensively damaged by the 2017 hurricanes, President of the Virgin Islands Horse Owners Association and long-time horse owner, Mr Lesmore Smith took on the mantle of ensuring the sport did not die by first working to get the grandstands and track fixed and then consistently organising race cards, often using his own resources to ensure plans became reality.

7 races carded for Pre-Valentine’s Races @ Ellis Thomas Downs this Sunday

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- After inclement weather and other issues twice prevented 5 races on the 2019 Boxing Day Horse Race Card organised by the Virgin Islands Horse Owners Association, the races will now be run on another card dubbed Pre-Valentine’s Races at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay this Sunday, February 2, 2020.

Legalise 'parimutuel wagering' or risk losing support of USVI horse owners- Lesmore Smith

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands Horse Owners’ Association is urging the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government to urgently bring legislation to the House of Assembly (HoA) to legalise betting at horse races locally or risk losing the sport to sister territory United States Virgin Islands (USVI).
