Filipino Association appeals for help in typhoon aftermath
The activity is being held to generate much needed funds to purchase basic necessities such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies for those in the affected areas in the Philippines, the TFABVI related.
According to President of the Association, Enda Ruffell Smith, this is the strongest typhoon that has ever hit not only the Philippines, but also the entire world, with sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts as strong as 380 kph (235 mph).
The death toll is currently estimated at over three thousand (3,000) with hundreds still missing and over 10 million of the population said to have been displaced following the super typhoon.
“Nothing could have prepared the people in these areas especially in the remote and small localities. It was a massive disaster consisting of overwhelming storm surges and flooding, which has displaced nearly 700,000 families," Ms Smith disclosed.
The Association’s President also told Virgin Islands News Online that she has lost two of her cousins in the aftermath of the typhoon and several other members of the Association have had family members who have been displaced as well.
“We are inviting everybody on November 17, 2013 to go on a “Walk for A Cause”, and are asking for a donation of $10 per participant,” Ms Smith related.
Registrations for the walk will be done 5:30A.M. to 6:15 A.M. at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park this Sunday. Volunteers and participants will start walking from the Park at 6:30 A.M. and head to Port Purcell via James Walter Francis Highway before turning to go back to the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.
“This calamity is another reminder that nature’s wrath is unpredictable that even the most sophisticated equipment or diligent efforts to prepare for such tragedy is not a guarantee that there will be no casualties,” Ms Smith added, “again, we are humbly knocking on doors and to everybody’s hearts, by asking for a donation in any form.”
The organisation assures that 100% of donations will go to those in need and not to administration costs and overheads.

Even though they taking over BVI with the jobs ... I have a soft spot for them... they don't cause no trouble in the BVI and they're very nice and easy to talk to and get along with... but form of donation will be can goods and clothes :)
