Love it, do it, live it, twirl – St Thomas Majorettes’ Inc. were given a typical heart-warming Virgin Islands welcome as they put on a breathing show for the many spectators during the EE/LL Festival Parade on August 7, 2013. Photo: VINO

EAST END/LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI – The East End/Long Look Festiville honouree, Ms Juliette Penn was further shown appreciation for her sterling contribution to the development of the festival observances in the two communities by being asked to marshal the annual parade on August 8, 2013.
The parade also drew a massive crowd as hundreds of persons lined the stretch from Red Rock, East End to the East End Police station where they were entertained by the many troupes that participated.
The parade started hours later than the scheduled 1 P.M. start but to many who had turned up early they seemed not to have been bothered about the long wait. There were rounds of applause when the car with Ms Penn rolled past the many spectators. The Festiville honouree was queenly seated, holding a large colourful umbrella and waving like the queen she was many years ago at one of the Miss East End Pageants. Her sash was marked ‘East End/Long Look Parade Marshall’. “She still got the touch of a queen, look her wave,” said an elderly male onlooker.
Ms Penn was followed by two queens, Miss BVI 2013/14 Ms Rosanna Chichester and Miss East /End Long Look Festival 2012, Ayana Phillips. Among the line-up of troupes were the Dynamic Twirlers, Fest Dollz, New Vibes Pan Jammers, A.M.P.S Twirling Bees just to name a few.
One of the troops from neighbouring St. Thomas, ‘Love it, do it, live it, twirl – St Thomas Majorettes Inc’, was given a typical heart-warming [British[ Virgin Islands welcome as they put on a skilful display of dancing.
As usual the Moko Jumbies were present and according to several persons on the ground the group of Moko Jumbies had grown tremendously. There were very small children on stilts as much as they were adults and youth.
The LIME troupe noticeably had a very large and entertaining contingent. There was also a two-man troupe that didn’t fail to catch the eyes and attention of the on-lookers “Limping jack – way back”. This was a troupe with an elderly man with a trolley of the past and a young child on biscuit can drums. Their van carried the notice boards that read “The dollar is shrinking, our dollar is dying, the people are suffering, Baked locally, Made locally, BVI Culture locally.”
All the troupes put on a well received performance just before turning the corner of the East End Police station. They then proceeded to the 2013 Juliette Penn Festiville where the entertainment continued throughout the night.
