Festival Opening changed to accommodate Minister’s schedule?
This announcement was made during a press conference on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 where the media was updated on the plans for the festival this year.
The official opening is accustomed to be on the night after the gospel concert, but instead the launch will be held on July 28, 2012, on the same night as the Calypso show.
With some hints and in contact with Marvin Blyden, Chairman of the Festival and Fairs Committee, he told this news site that the Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn will not be on the island on July 26, but will be on July 28.
At the press conference that was held with the committee, Acting Director of Culture Brenda Lettsome-Tye, stated that the opening of the festival had to be moved, and that July 28, was the closest and only available date to accommodate the opening.
Efforts were made to contact Mrs. Lettsome-Tye, but were unsuccessful.
The Emancipation Festival is set to launch on July 28, 2012, followed by the festival’s annual Calypso Show later that same night.
