FB family raises money for alleged victim of theft at Peebles Hospital
Mrs Charles, who turns 77 next week, had gone to Peebles Hospital recently where she was admitted. When she left her home that morning she never thought that she would have been admitted and had reportedly walked with the money she had been saving.
Since she is unable to work to maintain herself, she gets financial assistance from her relatives and reportedly spends very reservingly.
When the money was allegedly stolen she became very distraught which resulted in a high level of stress that reportedly further complicated her situation. She was discharged a day or two after the incident was published on this news site, said a relative.
"They sent her home and she came much more stressed out. She was still worried and frustrated by the entire thing because until this day nobody from the hospital has called her to say anything," the relative added.
On Saturday May 11, 2013 her frown was turned into smiles when she received a phone call from President of the Family Support Network (FSN) Ms Judith Charles.
The FSN President had contacted Virgin Islands News Online in an effort to reach Ms Euril Charles. Following the connection she broke the good news to this site about a Facebook initiative, the brainchild of Ms Karen Freeman who is an employee at Frenchman's Cay, which resulted in Ms Euril having an abundance of joy to usher in her Mothers' Day celebrations.
According to Ms Charles, the story was shared among members of the Facebook page, BVI community Board, when Ms Freeman came up with the brilliant idea of each member contributing $10 which would have seen them raising a targeted $600 to present to Ms Euril Charles. They did not make the full sum but was able to raise more than half as persons from around the world bought into the idea and made their contribution.
While some persons are still to honour their commitment, FSN's Ms Charles said what was collected will be handed over to the elderly woman today, May 13, 2013.
When this news site visited Ms Euril Charles at Virgin Gorda, she was all smiles and extended gratitude to those who thought of her. "This is a sad story with a positive outcome. Sometimes we must look at the bright side of bad situations," she said.
For her the positive is that there is a world out there with kind hearted people who are willing to put a smile on the face of people they don't even know. "I pray God's abundant blessings on them all and I thank you so much," said the elderly woman.
"They give me even more reason to be grateful to the father, to have a even better Mother's Day and my birthday is soon and that's more joy. I have life and I thank God," she added.
She also said she found it very uncaring that no one from the hospital's administration even bothered to call to find out how she was doing or to say whether or not the investigations have yielded anything.
