ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—“The fast life only leads to a fast demise. You may gain temporary riches, but the cost is immense. Your life, your freedom, and the heartache and heartbreak that you bring to your loved ones will live forever.”

This is according to Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) during a press conference on January 17, 2025, where members of His Loyal Majesty’s Opposition jointly voiced their concerns over the escalating prevalence of violent crime, particularly among young males.

Hon Turnbull's sentiments were made on the heels of the gunning down of 20-year-old Quintinn Noel, on January 15, 2025, and used the occasion to speak to societal consequences of crime.

Find a skill, find a craft- Hon Turnbull

In a direct appeal to the Territory's youth, Hon Turnbull said there have been escalating incidents involving robberies, shootings, and gun violence in his district and called for a redirecting of “their energies into positive pursuits.”

According to the Second District Representative, “This country was built on the backs of persons without education, without help. Find a skill, find a craft. The money that you are chasing, you will be able to achieve because the BVI is rich in opportunities and the ability to create wealth.”

You can’t force someone to go to school who doesn’t want too. Youth today is about fast money. Ya got to put some of the blame on these parents though! How your child have all kind of new and expensive things and you as a parent ain’t paid for it or the child ain’t have a job?

So because of these things I can’t feel sorry for them when they get killed or locked up! Government and parents are giving these children every opportunity available and yet they don’t want it.

The same "young men" would rather steal for it gives them that rush.. they would rather sit idly by and watch the world go by. Plotting who to rob or kill. So be real. How many of them have ever sought gainful employment? How many of them sought to do online GED, highschool diploma?
Nobody is kicking them out of school, they are expelling themselves out of society.

Adults Are Responsible To Guide The Youths In The Right Path. Do Wee?

on. Mitch Turnbull sentiments in reference to the fast life seekers also fit our political Leaders here and everywhere on this earth. Only difference is that the political Leaders fast lifestyle is legal and the others are not.

Hon. Mitch Turnbull, have you so soon forgotten the Greedy Bill law? The majority of youths that are immigrating the fast life life style are no worse than those that benefit financially, even though the political way is legal and theirs are elegal.

Righteousness exalts a Nation, but sin (wickedness) is a reproach (fall, shame, repulsive, downgrade) against all people everywhere on this earth. (BVI people too) AMEN.

“The BVIs is rich in opportunities”? Please tell is more. Tell us what your administration, indeed any administration in the last 4 decades, has done for its youth? Why should any young person give govt cred when they see politicians, with their fat salaries, vote themselves more money while the place continues to crumble down? What work do they see them do? What is the example they set?

Well, these are your offspring. Who raise he? His grandmother!
Too much seed and too little responsibility for you actions.
Men need to see that marriage and family is important. All you hot shots all cheating and chasing Spanish women.
These scooter boys is just a result of this bad behavior. We need to be parents and teach these children. We neglect this too long - it now on us

EASY TO SAY COMING FROM A MAN WHOM PARENTS WERE SUPPORTIVE AS THEY SHOULD BE HIS ENTIRE LIFE. Well MITCH most these parents or parent or guardian for these kids AINT CHIT! So while it's easy for you to say find skill learn trade becomes harder when you not in a positive environment. Now some can overcome a mountain of negativity but not most. You all think trafficking clashing and defending your source of income is EASY!? Dealing with life and death for this paper on daily basis is the toughest occupation to date. So sir please come down off your HIGH SOCIAL HORSE and get familiar.

The men them have 3 and 4 baby mamas plus wife and a few more children. Sleeping around making the children with irresponsible women and leaving them in broken homes with step fathers and mother boyfriend. When the children grow up now with all that trauma and mistreatment they turn to the street life for 'family and belonging to. Some of them men sitting in high government jobs. Ayo tell me I wrong messon

The way I see it, the cost of living is so high that honest, good, sane citizens have to work sometimes two or three jobs to afford groceries and the rest of necessities. Both parents (if there are two) have to work long hours.

That leaves no time home to guide the youth, or even know what they’re up to.

Are you telling me that if a kid sees his mother and father working and breaking their backs just to get by, they ain’t gonna choose an ‘easier’ road?
