Fans encouraged to get early ferry tickets to Triple Crown 2nd leg
The previous Virgin Islands Horse Owners’ Association has announced a special low travel package from Tortola to St Croix for the second leg on Sunday February 19. For just $160.00, round trip tickets are now available, which includes tickets on the Road Town Fast Ferry and also transportation to the Randall Doc James Race Track in St. Croix.
According to a spokesperson from the organising body responsible for the boat ride, the ferry will depart Tortola at 8 a.m. since post time is expected to be 12 p.m. She said it is hoped that persons would get their tickets early so that there would be no hold up during check in and that they would be able to properly organise the transportation even before reaching St. Croix.
Early purchase of tickets would also determine whether a second vessel would be needed.
She said so far persons have already started to get their tickets hence cashing in on the special of $150 per ticket for the first 50 persons. The vessel can accommodate some 149 persons.
Once on board, entertainment would be provided by a local disc jockey.
The objective of the boat ride, the spokesperson said, is to afford local horseracing fans the opportunity to view the favourite sport of the Virgin Islands - Horseracing, and to be able to follow the historic Triple Crown. She noted too that alternative transportation to St. Croix might be difficult since the US Territory would also be having its annual Agriculture Fair during that same weekend.
The first leg of the Triple Crown was won by Slevin of St. Croix and it would be interesting to see if Tortola horses Good Prospecting and East End Tap would be able to hit back on foreign soil.
Meanwhile, for more information regarding tickets to St. Croix persons can call 544-4046, 443-3702 or 499-0196.
