Fake! No official statement made on closure of public service
It was observed today, September 22, 2019 that a notice was being circulating on social media about the public service being closed on Tuesday.
This has been labeled as false by the Department of Disaster Management and the Acting Governor, David D. Archer.
According to Mr Archer, he will be meeting with Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), along with key entities tomorrow, September 23, 2019 to discuss Tropical Storm Karen.
“Any decisions on closures of the Public Service will be made then unless something drastic changes in the updates. As of this moment, no official statement or graphic on closures has been made or posted,” Mr Archer stated today.
TS Karen forecast to approach VI Tuesday
Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands has been placed on Tropical Storm Watch.
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.
On the forecast track, the center of Karen will move away from the Windward Islands later today, and then across the eastern Caribbean Sea tonight and Monday. On Tuesday, Karen is expected to approach the [British] Virgin Islands, according to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.
