She pleaded not guilty to the unlawful possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with the intent to supply when she appeared yesterday April 4, 2012 before Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens.
The Calypsonian was allegedly caught with 503.5 grammes of cannabis by Police when she was at the Road Town Ferry Dock around 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday. She was granted $60,000 bail and has to report to the Virgin Gorda Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Searles’ next court appearance is on June 4, 2012.However, in an interview with this news agency the singer said that she is a strong, positive black woman and the charges are just a bump in the road. “All I am focusing right now is just to take that stage on Sunday evening and sing!”
She will be performing “Who to blame, I ain’t calling no name” and “Honourable man of power”.
Touching briefly on the legal woes, the Calypsonian said she is not encouraging anyone or any youths to spoke marijuana, they have to make that decision on their own.“I know some of my family are disappointed because they come from a Christian background, for that I am sorry,” Searles added.
