Ex-Premier Fahie requests more flexible bail conditions for legal meetings, healthcare
Mr Fahie who is currently facing charges related to drug smuggling and money laundering has been charged along with his co-accused, former BVI Ports Authority Director Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard, and her son, Kadeem Maynard.
According to information, as a result of his bail conditions which restrict Mr Fahie to an apartment shared by his two daughters and some leeway to travel to court, Ms Van Vliet has been traveling to Fahie’s house to prepare his defense.
It was detailed that when Van Vliet visits Mr Fahie, his student daughters would leave the apartment for short periods to give both Van Vliet and Mr Fahie privacy to discuss sensitive matters.
Ms Van Vliet on Friday, April 7, 2023, asked the court to adjust the bail conditions so her client can travel 45 minutes to her Fort Lauderdale office to have meetings, and this will be done no more than three times a week. As part of Van Vliet’s argument, she said as the trial nears, there will be more need to meet with her client frequently and for longer periods.
Fahie recently obtained permission for Doctor's visit
Ms Van Vliet also requested that Mr Fahie be allowed to leave his house to seek health care services in the form of dental care with follow-up visits.
Ms Van Vliet said her client recently obtained permission to travel to his dentist for a root canal and wanted additional freedoms for follow-up dental visits.
Mr Fahie, along with Ms Pickering-Maynard and her son Kadeem were arrested on April 28, 2022.
The three have pleaded not guilty to the various charges with Mr Fahie out on bail since June 2022 under terms that he wears an electronic monitoring device and not leave his daughters' Florida apartment.
