MIAMI, Florida, USA- Former Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to launder money and import cocaine to the United States, his attorney said on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Hon Fahie was ousted as premier earlier this month after the US Department of Justice said he had agreed with a Drug Enforcement Administration informant to help smuggle cocaine in exchange for a cut of the proceeds leading to his arrest in Miami.

Governor John J. Rankin, on April 28, 2022, announced that Mr Fahie had been detained in Miami by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)

The Department of Justice also arrested and charged Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard, who had been the Managing Director for the BVI Ports Authority, with the same crimes as Fahie.

$1M bail set

A Miami federal judge on Monday, May 23, 2022, rejected a prosecutor’s bid to detain former Premier Fahie, but before he can be released from a federal lock-up on a new $1 million bond, he must prove to the judge that the money for his bail comes from a legitimate source.

Reuters reported that his Attorney Theresa Van Vliet, when consulted, said Fahie has already pleaded not guilty.

US District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled as a condition of Fahie’s bail he must wear a GPS device so he can be monitored and that his defense attorney can only visit him at his daughters’ home in southwest Miami-Dade County.

His daughters and wife also have to surrender their passports.

He has no choice but to plead not guilty. I mean by law, innocent until proven guilty, right? Pleading anything else would be asinine.

Well, he could take a plea deal and get off with less time. If he goes to trial and is found guilty he risks them locking him up and throwing away the key.

Where there is drug money there is corruption, and the complicity of corrupted government officials and institutions is a fundamental feature sustaining the international drug trade

@Similiar sting operation in JA. I am not condoning what Mr. Fahie did but Which countries are watching the US for their illegal activities. For they are the largest culprit in that business. They feel only them can do it. Drugs run the American economy.

Not guilty is the right move to start with, Hoping that they can get the recorded evidence suppress, thrown out,. If that doesn't happen he will change his plea cut a deal and plea guilty.. He and his lawyers sure won't want the Jury and the world to hear the horrible stuff on those recordings..

I am a nobody, and even I have enough sense to know if someone approaches me to do illegal things, I would not be suckered in. I know the outcome might be prison or my death. If I cannot honestly work for my living, I don’t need it. Greed is why they are in trouble now and I have zero sympathy for them. When they come back, they need to hang their heads in shame. They will be regular citizens and don’t deserve any respect or special privileges. They too are now nobodies.

What the DEA, CIA, or FBI does in cases like these, is called a "preempted strike". They are not concerned about what you do in your country but, once they determine that your actions pose a threat to their security, they take what so ever action they deem necessary to find and illuminate that threat, even if something bad happens to you. It may not look pretty in the end but that's what they do. "Think collateral damage "

Is everyone oblivious to the fact that he took the bait out of greed? How did he think this was going to end? A person involved in illegal deals just don't get the chance to say I quit once they have everything they want. There are repercussions to your actions, and here we are.
