ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) has announced the launch of its Lunch Ambassador Programme, a key initiative under the Partners for Peace programme.

This programme invites parents and community members to volunteer during lunchtime once a week to support student supervision while fostering meaningful relationships with students in a positive, engaging environment.

The Lunch Ambassador Programme, according to a press release from ESHS, is designed to enhance the school’s efforts in promoting a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Volunteers, it said, play an essential role in helping to monitor the lunch period while also serving as mentors, offering guidance, and encouraging positive interactions among students.

'Promoting Positive Behaviour'

Assistant Principal Tanika Phillips expressed enthusiasm about the programme, stating, “We believe that strong school-community partnerships contribute to a supportive and enriching educational experience for our students. The Lunch Ambassador Programme provides an opportunity for parents and community members to engage with students in a meaningful way, fostering trust and promoting positive behaviour.”

The initiative, ESHS said, aligns with ESHS’s commitment to creating a caring and inclusive school environment, ensuring that students feel supported not only by educators but also by the broader community.

Join the Effort!

ESHS welcomes parents and community members who are interested in becoming Lunch Ambassadors to sign up and make a difference.

"Whether it’s offering a listening ear, encouraging positive behavior, or simply engaging in friendly conversations, volunteers will have the opportunity to help shape a supportive and connected school community.

Those interested in partnering with ESHS through the Lunch Ambassador Programme can contact the school at 284-468-6764/284-468-6759/284-468-6725/284-468-6756.

This has been needed for some time. Students having trouble with other students, teachers, or their home environments need someone to talk to other than teachers or other students. Older adults who have had life experiences need to lend an ear, listen, and give positive advice to students who might be bullied, ignored, or mistreated and feel they have nowhere else to turn to for help. Speaking to an outsider wouldn't feel so threatening and could build the trust that is needed. Some students lash out in anger and fight out of frustration because they feel no one cares about them. I wish I had had this kind of support when I was in school. I used to silently cry and not tell my parents about who was bullying me, or a certain teacher would not take time to re-explain the lesson for me, so I fell behind and had to go to summer school for tutoring.
