ESHS L-Shaped Building to be renamed
“My class was the first class to use the L-Shaped Building, which we will soon rename,” Hon Wheatley stated at the Elmore Stoutt High School Graduation Ceremony at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on June 27, 2019.
Hon Wheatley; however, told Virgin Islands News Online, no name has been decided on as yet.
The Education Minister also said he was happy to report that repair work on the hurricane damaged L-Shaped Building at ESHS campus is progressing and it should be ready for occupancy in the new school year.
When this building is handed over to the Ministry, the junior students of ESHS will transfer to the new campus and the senior students will remain at the Old Clarence Thomas limited (CTL) Building at Pasea Estate.
“This will allow [us] to have school for a full day as was the case before the hurricanes.”
Corporate support needed for furnishing of L-Shaped Building
Members of the business community and former students are also being encouraged to assist with the furnishing of the L-Shaped Building.
“I invite you to become a donor as we rebuild Elmore Stoutt High School one classroom at a time. This is a good way to support the redevelopment process of the secondary school [and] we have made it easy to adopt a classroom.”
Hon Wheatley said the [Adopt-A-Classroom] project will be launched next week and interested persons can contact the Project Coordinator in the Ministry of Education, Ms Lorna Stevens or Acting Chief Education Officer (ACEO) Connie E. George.
VISTS may be relocated to ESHS campus
Meanwhile, Hon Wheatley said the Education Ministry is in discussion on how to go about rebuilding the Elmore Stoutt High School and is looking at the possibility of having a “Junior Wing and a Senior Wing as well as the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) on the 8 acres of land the ESHS is presently occupying.”
The Education Minister said discussions are ongoing with stakeholders and the “Ministry will be taking this forward for more open discussions as we move forward towards the rebuilding of the ESHS campus.”
