ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Word reaching our news desk is that the 2020 Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) graduation exercise scheduled for today, Thursday, July 30, 2020 was rescheduled.

It is now slated to commence on Thursday, August 6, 2020.

According to information reaching our newsroom, the decision to postpone the graduation was made by bureaucrats, mainly the Acting Chief Education Officer Mrs Connie E. George; Permanent Secretary, Mrs Carolyn E. Stoutt-Igwe; and Principal of ESHS, Ms Vanessa K. Garraway.

Education Minister, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) was left out of the loop, according to reports.

Parents, students and some teachers were also allegedly not aware a decision was made to postpone.

It has been said the decision was made due to inclement weather brought on by Tropical Storm Isaias.

Minister Wheatley snubbed?

It is believed that this disrespect for the Minister for Education on this matter; however, led him to convening a meeting with relevant staff to get to the bottom of the issue.

Further, a Zoom call was organised with some graduating students and parents and they were informed of the new date after being caught by surprise.

Honourable Wheatley, when reached, confirmed that the graduation will be held next Thursday. “This decision was made after consultation with PS, CEO, principal, and parents,” Hon Wheatley said.

Many residents and parents have criticised Minister Wheatley for not 'cleaning house', as many of the same public officers that the now ousted controversial Education Minister, Myron V. Walwyn, brought in are still left in place and are still reportedly causing havoc to the education system.

“One or two of them” are reported to be undermining the Minister; however, sources did not provide details.

When Dr Wheatley was asked about the reports of certain officers undermining him, Dr Wheatley responded: “The Permanent Secretary, Acting Chief Education Officer and Principal of ESHS are working extremely hard, and I am grateful for their commitment to their jobs.”

Meanwhile, Mrs Stoutt-Igwe and Mrs Garraway did not respond to our request for comments.

Can’t we sign some type of petition to remove these two John crows from the seats that they gorilla glue themselves in? Both of them needs to go. Time to replace the tough flank steaks for a more tender T bone

Why not on August Sunday or during August Festival? My guess is simple logistics; the Minister of Culture who will be spearheading this year's festival celebrations and virtual events to honour our heritage in these trying times is the SAME Minister of Education. Physics and logistics dictate that he cannot be in two places at the same time, and he will want to pay equal attention to all events, hence the rescheduling to immediately after August Festival.

Was the minister snubbed? No. Not according to this article. It clearly says that: "This decision was made AFTER consultation with PS, CEO, principal, and parents,” Hon Wheatley said."" Reason for postponement was in climate weather. A great decision by the way. Thanks Dr. Wheatley. Continue to stay focused on real issues.

You obviously have a personal problem with the CEO and here is a great way to air your ignorance. When there is hard work, accountability and responsibility, those who can’t face, run.

I think it was totally unfair to the students. Now that is a perfect example of why we cannot Govern ourselves. Everyone here get a little position and they go stupid with power. Only in the BVI, anywhere out side the BVI, those two power hungry duo would be working in the Mailroom and making the daily office coffee run.

The saying 'You know what you have, you don't know what you will get', will be the death of many organizations that are driven by gossip, party affiliates and the don't know experts. The PS, CEO, and the administration of ESHS has the right to make decisions in any emergency
    • @Be real (31/07/2020, 12:19) Like (13) Dislike (0) Reply
You are basically saying that they should do it again. Don’t you think it would have been proper and respectful that they should have advised the Hon. minister? Ridiculous. It was total disrespect and no regard for the Minister in post. You think they could have done that to the former Minister or any other Minister that we know before this one? Ridiculous. I hope he disciplined them all. Give respect where it is due - period.

I am hearing all these negative comments about the cancelling of ESHS graduation this year. i do not think it is fair to place all the blame on her. i heard a student saying that the parents and children were not ready for graduation on Thursday 30th June and they made a ruckus. Why isn't the blame placed on the parents and children? Before we start the blame game because we dislike a person for whatever reason, please get the facts and then comment.

You people are so mean! Why don’t you come from behind the keyboard and say it to their faces. Why do you have to be so uncouth? They are all respectable women. And I can say so because I have had experiences with all of them. Are you people ever satisfied? If they had other people, you still would be complaining. Wake up each day and pray asking God to guide your tongue, thoughts and fingers. Please people use your down time to get to know or get closer to God. It will save you a lot of headache.

      Fed up of their lies
Fed up of their underhanded deeds
      Fed up of their manipulations
