Erected warning signs add extra safety measures at Savannah Bay beach
As a continued project to increase safety on our beaches throughout the territory, safety measures have been put in place at Savannah Bay in Virgin Gorda.
The BVI Tourist Board in collaboration with the Conservation & Fisheries Department’s Lifeguards erected two warning signs and flotation safety measures at Savannah Bay beach on the 21st February, 2012. The signs were placed at the main entrance of Savannah Bay and at the end of the trail that leads to Little Dix Bay Resort.
The purpose of these safety measures is to remind swimmers to exercise caution when swimming at the beaches. It helps to reduce the occurrence of dangerous incidents that may take place. The signs that were placed on the beach are specific to Savannah Bay and provide swimmers with information about possible safety hazards that may occur.
The floating devices are also accessible in the event of a distressful situation, where these devices can be used to aid in bringing individuals to safety.
“The first line of defense in promoting safety on our beaches is to educate the public and build awareness of the dangers that exist. Each sign is unique to the particular beach that it is erected on and will provide information to visitors of any potential danger that may currently exist,” said Mervin Hastings, Acting Deputy Chief Conservation and Fisheries Officer.
