ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, and Sports, Hon Sharie B. deCastro (AL) has indicated that with the reopening of schools to commence in two weeks for the 2022-2023 team, parents, students and teachers of the Enis Adams Primary School will be returning to a hybrid system learning system.

The Minister in a statement today, August 26, 2022, said the decision was taken to put the health and safety of local children and teachers first, given infrastructure works are ongoing at the Enis Adams Primary School and Francis Lettsome Primary School.

Unite BVI to pay for cost of works

“Today we are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has partnered with Unite BVI who has agreed to absorb the total cost of the infrastructural works needed to provide a safe and functional learning environment for the students at both Enis Adams and Francis Lettsome Primary Schools.”

Calling it exceptional news with gratitude extended to Unite BVI, the minister said she was pleased to report that the projects will start next week and in the case of Francis Lettsome Primary School, will be completed in phases, with the first phase to be completed in time for the reopening of school.

“This will allow for the students and teachers to occupy the space in time for the opening of the new school term. The works needed at Enis Adams Primary School include the completion of the second-floor classrooms, which is slated to begin next week,” she said.

Consultations had with stakeholders

The Minister said as such, after consultations with the technical team at the Ministry of Education and the principal of the school, a decision has been made to implement a hybrid system at the Enis Adams Primary School where those at the institution will be afforded face-to-face instruction on a daily basis, via the following shedule:

  1. Students from kindergarten to grade two, including students in the therapeutic kindergarten will attend school for full day instruction from 8:30 am-3:15 pm, Monday to Friday.
  1. Students in grades 3 to 6 will attend on a hybrid schedule with one-half of the population attending in the morning from 8:30am – 12 noon and the other half attending in the afternoon from 1:00pm – 4:30pm.
  2. Consideration has been given to accommodate families who have students in multiple grades so that parents will not have to pick up at two separate times during the day.

Hon Decastro said parents have already been informed of the decision via meetings.

this system creates educated children with bad character because the learn in an atmosphere with no authority we seem to not understand the importance of a teacher in the class room and we think that it is just a job.we seem to have a system that wants to resist the responsibility of shaping the future in the right manner this is the future of the country and the face to face transfer of character is needed for the children please let the children have their classrooms with a present human teacher it is very important

All they had to do was move the small population of students from Ivan Dawson School up to Enis Adams and then use the Ivan Dawson School for Althea Scatliffe students. Only a few minor alterations would be needed.

Just take the children from Ivan Dawson School up to Enis Adams School they are a smaller population and would be easier to fit in and then use the entire Ivan Dawson campus for Althea Scatliffe Children. Ivan Dawson is one of the largest primary school with a small population. There would be no need for a hybrid system. Remember whatever changes that will be implemented will be longer than one term. Just my thoughts.
