Elections 2023: ‘I’m struggling to keep my voice, but we got to push on’- Premier
Dr Wheatley was at the time speaking as a telephone guest on the Thursday, March 30, 2023, edition of ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show on Tola Radio 100.5 FM with host Floyd Burnett aka ‘Heritage’.
'We got to push on' - Dr Wheatley
“I'm struggling to keep my voice, but we got to push on because of course, we have an important election, and we have to let persons know why they should choose us versus anybody else. So it's a labor of love,” he added.
The Premier said, however, the decision is ultimately up to the people of the VI to vote for who they want in office.
“I don't believe in any tricks or anything like that. You know, I believe you go out there, you tell people why they should vote for you [and] you defend your record [and] give your ideas,” he said.
He added that if someone says something that is incorrect, he will still correct them as that is all part of the campaign process. To the voters, however, he asked that they listen to persons on the campaign trail with a clear & critical mind.
Challenge political candidates - Premier urges electorate
“Just listen with a sober-minded mentality, with a critical ear... and put two and two together,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Premier added that when persons on the campaign trail say things that don't make sense, the electorate should also see the need to challenge them on their worlds ahead of the General Election date set for April 24, 2023,
“And if you can't stand up to the challenge and you can’t stand up to the scrutiny, you're not ready,” he said in a message to his political opponents.
