ST. KITTS & NEVIS – A strong no-nonsense message was sent when eight (8) American citizens were arrested, formally charged, and fined for breaching their quarantine conditions on the island of Nevis.

The eight offenders appeared before the Charlestown Magistrate Court via a virtual hearing on March 17, 2021.

According to Superintendent Cromwell Henry speaking at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) COVID-19 Press Briefing on March 17, each of the eight plead guilty and was each charged EC$ 4,000 (US$ 1500) to be paid forthwith or serve six months in prison.

They remain at the quarantine facility in Potworks, Nevis, while they decide to pay the fines, after which they will be allowed to leave the Federation.

The Americans were arrested, charged, and subsequently fined for two security breaches that occurred at a resort on Nevis that had been approved to offer guests a “vacation in place” quarantine option which permits guests who test negative for COVID-19 upon arrival to utilize the services and amenities of the resort without leaving the property. However, the eight United States nationals breached the arrangement.

On Thursday, March 11, the first breach took place when two guests illegally left the resort’s premises for approximately two hours. The second security breach took place in the early hours of Saturday morning March 13 and involved six guests who also managed to leave the resort’s compound without authorization.

The eight offenders were removed from the resort and taken to a government quarantine site until their departure. The National COVID-19 Task Force also suspended the “vacation in place” designation for the tour group at the resort until all matters are fully investigated and satisfactory measures to address security lapses are put in place.

A statement from the government read: “The National COVID-19 Task Force remains vigilant  in working with all state agencies to protect our country’s borders, control the spread of infection, and ensure enforcement of the COVID-19 (Prevention & Control) Act and its related Statutory Rules & Orders (SROs).”

Good, they have some nerve entering other countries bringing their germs and infections to spread among the locals. The United States Karens and Kens are the worst. They need to starting fining people right here in the BVI, who think they are entitled and don't have to wear a mask, even though they know is mandatory. The visitors I can deal with who don't listen, all I tell them is to go somewhere else because I will not serve them, but the ones who live here are stupid and ridiculous, but I still deal with them the same way, but soooooo tired of these IDIOTS!

They will be calling their elected representatives to complain that they were disrespected in Nevis. Americans believe that they are free to do whatever they wish in other countries and the big powerful USA will protect them. They should have been jailed for at least 6 months plus the fine.

Those ppl have no regard for others and its sickening. They feel like they can jus go where ever and do whatever they want with blatant disregard for the laws of the land! Make an example of them and ALLL caribbean islands should do the same.

They will go to one of those countries with zero tolerance from outsiders, where they chop off your hand or foot for going against the rules. Just watch one of these stupid people try this. It's gonna happen.
