ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has publicly congratulated local promoter Mr Steve E. Parillon and Yolo Promotions on the “resounding success” of the Black On Black Concert featuring Vybz Kartel on March 15, 2025.

The Premier was speaking at a press conference today, March 21, 2025, when he spoke on the concern and other matters, including his recent attendance at the 76th authority meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) in Saint Martin.

Although criticised in some sections of society regarding allowing Vybz Kartel, who had a murder conviction against him overturned, to perform in the territory, the show held behind Ralph T. O’Neal Complex on Tortola saw more than five thousand people attend.

Economic impact being finalised

Premier Wheatley, who attended the concert, said it was “an amazing event” in which Vybz Kartel and other artistes entertained thousands of fans who came to the territory for the show.

“The show undoubtedly generated significant economic activity and stimulated the economy.

“We are beginning the process of analysing its economic impact and will provide an update in due course. For now, I’m confident that the hotels, rental car companies, vendors, restaurants, ferries, taxis, gas stations, clothing stores, salons, and barber shops are happy with the outcome,” Premier Wheatley stated.

The Premier said he has tasked the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, Joseph Smith Abbott, with getting the necessary data.

What was the cheapest ticket? $114. By simple math 5,000 x $114 = $570,000. Put back what was given from govt back into the Treasury. Thanks.

more preaching to the youths about sex drugs violence, fast life and gangs? (Easter incoming)

more youths to pull more stunts on vising artist? are we gonna hire and pay local bodyguard's when artist come to perform now? or put strain on the police to be up under the artist everywhere when they could be patrolling?

usvi criminals alrdy send there message. Dont come to st thomas with no jewlery after that stunt yall pull on pressure..

    was it worth it?

If I was an outside artist and I was invited to Tortola to perform, no matter how much I was offered, I would have to turn it down. They might pull a gun on me and rob me like they did pressure bust pipe and his people. Pressure is a big deal in ST. Thomas. Even the criminals in sT. Thomas is pissed off about what went down in Tortola. There is going to be retaliation behind this one.

After the pandemic the then premier Andrew Fahie generated a stimulus package in the way of grants to help struggling people and also to boost the economy and you all crucified him. The present premier took a different route with the same goal in mind and here we go again with the negative criticism. The country did well last weekend because of the show.

How is the impact study being conducted? Were travelers, visitors and residents attending the concert given any questionnaires to fill out with information on where they'll be staying, did they rent a vehicle, how much money is budgeted etc? similar to what they do at SKB's music fest? How will this study really be done???

Whoever made the stupid decision to pull a gun and robbed Pressure bus Pipe and his crew better give back whatever you rob them for. Repercussions is coming down the pipe line. How y’all violate the man like that. This story is all over the US. Everyone knows about what was done to him in Tortola.

There is nothing to be analyzed. The hatred is for the promoter. Government sponsored $220K, people came out, some businesses made lots of money, some made a few bucks, some made none. What is all the noise about still.

How many of the tik tik crowd will come to the BVI because of this...less than 5% maybe???
It's all hype and very little substance. So what if youtube shows a show from Tortola. Are those who watch it youtube or streamed it live going to come here because of it? I doubt that because Tortola wasn't advertised or shown. Mr Palmer was shown and his fans will watch his next broadcast but will they come here because of it? I doubt that
Dancehall and Reggae patrons do travel to events but they go to where has events regularly.
The government shouldn't be keeping shows all year. Subsidize festival and a musicfest but to do spot shows is childish mentality in my opinion.
Would the same crowd have showed up if it was just Vybz Kartel alone? Yes. So all the extra was waste of money and they would've known that if they used their own money but they used the people's money amd want to flex off on us after spending our money amd then tell us how great it is for us. If it was so great use your Own money next time.

That's the worst show ever in the bvi. We didn't need kartel to put us on the map . We got that exposure from the last premier.

No one will ever find out the result - this "analysis" will take as long as it needs to until the population forgets about this and moves onto another source of outrage - knowing the BVI, that's about 10 minutes on average. It's why there's still no running water regularly in 2025.

That money is part if what is taking from poor people who are sending money through moneygram and western union, nothing better to do with that money so let people enjoy it because it's still going to go into someone pocket, Stop talk about kartel now and let's move on, we have nothing to get back at least I enjoy the show, I'm still singing some of his songs. Satan you fail
