SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- The Ebenezer Thomas Primary School brought in the new academic year and its 50th anniversary with all things new as the school unveiled a new mascot, motto and school houses.

New Mascot

Paying homage to the horse racing tradition in Sea Cows Bay and the school’s legacy of resilience and student collaboration, Ebenezer Thomas’ new mascot is the Thoroughbred Horse. The school's old mascot was an eagle.

New Motto

The new motto by which Ebenezer Thomas Primary will operate is ‘Charged For Excellence’, while the theme for this year is ‘Staying Charged’. The school operated with the motto 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' before taking on the new motto.

Through the new motto, the school’s commitment to academic success entwined with instilling its students with core values shines.

3 new houses

The three new houses also pay homage to Sea Cows Bay horse racing tradition as they are each named after horse breeds.

Fret Mustangs is the name of the new blue house while Forbes Arabians is the name of the new green house and Brathwaite Appaloosas is the new red house.

Ebenezer Thomas Primary has a number of activities and events on its calendar as celebrations continue.

She said that she wasn't going to change the motto but she had other plans. I guess that Bible scripture was bothering her. Let her go ahead and see how far she'll get minus God's word. That's a very important part of the school's history that was tossed out for selfish reasons. Look out she might change that uniform without the community.

While I do not oppose the change of the new ‘school mascot’, as it honors the rich tradition of horse racing in the 3rd District. I DO OPPOSE the change of the schools motto, as it served as a pillar to the school (ETPS) identity, its history and its VALUES. It also defines who we are as a community. (Ie a Christian community..)

I would echo this sentiment: If it ain't broke, please don’t fix it!! When concerning change, please let’s carefully consider the importance of persevering history and in this case our schools rich heritage/legacy.

Was this change discussed with the PTA and the Ministry of Education? If the PTA voted, was in for or against? The generations of alumni, were they informed and were they given a chance to vote as well? After all we have some of our fondest memories there. That school is etched in our hearts, carrying beautiful memories but some wanna be stepped in and decided to change all this. BVI aint a real place messon. I mean who cares about LEGACY right?
