Early PVIM fallout! Lesmore Smith running Independent At-Large
Sources close to the PVIM told our news centre that Lesmore Smith, who announced last December that he is running as an At-Large candidate with the PVIM, has been forced off the ticket. It is our understanding that he was asked to run in District 5, but opted not to, as his slot as a PVIM At-Large candidate was taken by a former Speaker of the House of Assembly who the party thought was a better candidate.
"I am contesting as an Independent At-Large candidate," Mr Smith told our newsroom today, March 5, 2023.
The other political parties including the National Democratic Party and Progressives United are having a hard time finding candidates to run in the Fifth District, the stronghold of the Virgin Islands Party popular Member and incumbent Hon Kye M. Rymer, who is the Deputy Premier and Minister for Communications and Works.
Hon Rymer is expected to easily retain his seat, according to most political commentators.
If he wins?
The same source noted that if Mr Smith is able to capture an At-Large seat, he will re-join the PVIM because of his relationship with its chairman, Mr Ronnie W. Skelton.
The PVIM is expected to launch some of its candidates to contest the 2023 General Elections on March 6, 2023.
We will bring you more information as the story develops.

Or is just seeking political power( every second shift here and a shift there, very mesmerizing
need folks coming together with a serious mindset to take the territory in a positive direction
In the past 20-30 years not very much has been done to uplift the people: just look around and you will clearly see
Bad public highways
Lack of running street water
Sewage in some areas
Dark Public Highway
The dump @ pockwood pond
The above list goes on & on……..
you see your political representatives every 3 years and six months) just be the elections, once them get in them gone
We in d5 sticking with kye he is our hero
How is the 5th any better today than it was 4 years ago? Oh I see, handouts and contracts to his handlers. Carry on
Did you not see the Economic Zone commenced being built months ago?
There is Sanky Sunday where the community gathers to commune together in song and worship at the Community Centre.
As for handouts, I would hope he isn’t bending any rules to secure votes or maintain friendships. The COI and recent arrests should be a lesson to refrain from underhanded behaviour.
How can he stop people from hanging on the basketball court? The basketball court been there before the church furthermore it was a little hut there where the older men used to play basketball and drink their DECADESSS AGO!!!
Everywhere in the world has bars everywhere what kind of comment is that?
Overgrown bush is everywhere in the BVI the 5th has minimal overgrown bush no your districts and where they start and stop.
Try again!! All your supposed accusations happens all around the BVI
What do we see? He is complicit in all the bad decisions of the VIP. He voted for the Greedy Bill. He voted to take out the $40 million out of Social Security. He voted to pay Claude Skelton Cline and EZ Shipping exorbitant amounts of money for a small amount of work. He as the Communication and Works Minister have a lot of responsibilities and he apparently only care about his District. Let me list them for you what he has been neglecting. He obviously cannot order Public Works, who are under his remit, to patch a dam pot hole. The Complex has been down since 2017 and that cannot be fixed. He jacked up the damn traffic. Sick of that roundabout traffict. Hate it. And didn't bother look back on Traffic Department to streamline services so we can get better service after having to drive from the capital on our lunch hour. Didn't even think of a small depot in Town to renew licenses. The old people have to tell these young people everything, but they quick to hire expensive lawyers. Something else he said yeah too. And that is just to name a few. Our problem is Kye and all the others are good at spending money, but unfortunately our country is the most crappy it has ever been under their watch and no other Government in the history of the Virgin Islands took, not borrowed, took $40 million of our Social Security money. And they didn't have the decency to at least buy the scrubber for the Incinerator and patch the roads with some of it. I don't see what Kye has over the others. All of them are nice guys. Because he calls you and WhatsApp you and Sankey singouts etc does not make him a good Representative. It makes him a good friend. Not all our friends can represent us. They are all my friends. I love them all, but how are they representing us. He is not just D5 Rep. He is the Minister for Communication and Works. You drove through your District lately. Ghetto Fabulous, especially Huntumns Ghut.
