E-Coli outbreak prompts immediate recall of Romaine Lettuce, bagged salads-RTW
The recall, being promted by an outbreak of E-Coli.
According to a public statement, issued by the company yesterday, November 21, 2018, “the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising that US consumers not eat any romaine lettuce, and retailers, restaurants not serve or sell any, until we learn more about the outbreak as more information is available.”
According to RTW, the CDC, as well as public health and regulatory officials in several US States, Canada, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multi-state outbreak of 'Shiga Toxin-producing Escherichia coli 0157:h7 (E.Coli 0157:H7),' infections linked to romaine lettuce.
As of November 20, 2018, 32 people in one state have been infected, with the outbreak strain of E. Coli 0157:H7.
The CDC and FDA, has since advised restaurants and retailers not to serve or to sell any romaine lettuce, including baby romaine, salads, salad mixes containing romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad mixes during this on-going investigation.
Public Health and regulatory officials suggest you wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators or coolers where romaine and romaine products were stored. Here is a decontamination process to follow advised by the CDC.
