Drive-by shooting in West End

WEST END, Tortola, VI- Reports reaching our news centre indicate a drive-by shooting in the West End area this evening, Friday, September 1, 2023.

It is unclear at this time if anyone was injured, as our news centre has been informed that no one has shown up at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital with gunshot injuries.

The shooting incident took place around 7:00 PM in the vicinity of a boatyard in the Freshwater Pond/Zion Hill area. 

Our newsroom was informed that the shooters used machine guns to fire a number of rounds at their intended victim.

Residents in the area reported hearing the rapid fire.

A number of spent shells were observed on the road.

Heavily armed police were noticed on the scene about an hour and a half after the shooting. 

More details will be provided as they come in.

      Fully agree. & some people are glorifying it or thinking they won’t end up under the thumbs of gangs as the Spanish and Haitians live under.

      Black people never stopped rebellion under slavery we are warriors capable of policing ourself but as a community we really became soft & selfish.     We may seriously have to legalize guns or have the police advise us on what is effective until they arrive.

    All this violence is leading persons to question the right to self defense. Now a days when someone threatens you it’s as if you have to take them down then and there with hands because the police are coming after the drive bys with no suspects arrested after the drive by murder in east end. Atleast you get who’s after you as they will call their thug friends either way.

    Do we wait until it’s as bad as Trinidad for the police to recommend citizens including females to arm themself?

Why is there no police presence in West End knowing this is a hot spot for gun activities. Really shameful if they showed up hour and half later! COP must give answers to the people.

    They waited long enough to ensure that the shooters had time to drive to the airport and fly to STT before they arrived. There is more gun fire this morning.

    so with the cameras at big bens gas..cameras at tge boar yard..cameras at big bens market..cameras at the police station...police should be able to identify the vehicle used and/ how many people involved.

    hope they are on it and doing proper police work.
    i hope it really didnt take 1 1/2 for them to get on scene !!

    Reading is fundamental. The article did not say the police arrived on the scene 1 1/2 later. It said it was noticed, which means the news writer arrived at the scene around that that time. Police falls under the Governor so these questions should be directed to him

      yes correct..article said something like...noted on scene 1 1/2 hours later. question though...when thw fire dept respond to a fire..in their public report on the incident..they normally say when the time of the initial call was ans when they arrived on scene.

      Why do the police never do that.? is it because they are always late.? at a west end town hall meeting some months back the police rep there was explaining that there is a " roaming" response team driving around the island at night..so if anything happens west end where we dont have any night police presence....if a call comes in and the roving police are by brewers bay..its going to take time to get to us. its not righr...we pay our taxes west end like anyone else...we deserve police presence and proper police protection..no excuses !!

            You watching the news. I was living in the Uk for 3 years and I’ve seen with my own two eyes several drug busts and police takedowns on numerous occasions. Say what you want everywhere has its good and bad but they be handling shit when it happens a lot of the times unlike here.
