Dr Timothy S. Harris sworn in as St Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister
This news site was the first to tell the region and the world that Dr Harris would be sworn in today. The sidewalks outside of Government House in Basseterre, the Capital City of St Kitts, were packed on Wednesday afternoon as thousands of supporters thronged to witness Prime Minister Hon Dr Timothy S. Harris take the oath of office during a ceremony officiated by Governor General Sir Edmund W. Lawrence.
Prime Minister Harris, who campaigned on giving St Kitts and Nevis a “fresh start”, was sworn in as the 3rd Prime Minister of the twin island Federation two days after leading the historic alliance Team Unity to a victory at the February 16, 2015 polls.
Speaking moments ago exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online, Dr Harris thanked the people of St Kitts and Nevis and Nationals of the Federation living abroad for making it possible for a new day for the Federation.
He promised to strive to “live up to the commitment to Restoring Democracy and Promoting Prosperity in St Kitts and Nevis and I invite all the people to join our cause”.
The Team Unity alliance won 7 of 11 seats in a near landslide over the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and Nevis Reformation Party coalition led by former long time and controversial Prime Minister Dr Denzil L. Douglas.
Dr Harris was sworn in, along with new Attorney General Vincent Byron Jr.
