Dr the Hon Karl Dawson no longer a Jr Minister; To be Deputy Speaker

“The second change I wish to announce is that the Honorable Karl Dawson will no longer serve as Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. He has made a tremendous contribution to the work of this government in these key areas. I commend him for his dedication and commitment to our farmers and fisherfolk,” Premier Wheatley stated.
The Premier continued that Dr Dawson will continue to support him [Dr Wheatley] in his capacity as the minister with the portfolio for agriculture and fisheries, “and be the parliamentary focal point in these areas.”
Deputy Speaker’s role for Dr Dawson
Dr Wheatley also said he would be writing to the Clerk of the House of Assembly to give notice of his intention to move a motion to make Honorable Dawson the new Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.
“He has a wealth of experience and is more than capable of holding such a position.”
The current Deputy Speaker is Opposition Member Hon Stacy R. Mather, who along with Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) and Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), recently rebelled against the Opposition Leader, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), by forming an ‘Alliance’.
Meanwhile, Premier Wheatley thanked both Honorable Smith and Honourable Dawson for “putting country first as we continue to build these Virgin Islands into a sustainable nation in which the empowerment of our people comes first.”
