‘Don’t mind the noise’- Dr Hubert O’Neal
Dr The Honourable Hubert O'Neal, District 9 Representative, announced during his remarks at the graduation ceremony of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre- Secondary Division on June 29, 2017, that a new primary school will be built to separate the primary and secondary division.
“The spot has been chosen. The construction drawings are being created as I speak and the money has been set aside for this project. Therefore, the new primary school, as promised to you, the people of Virgin Gorda, is here,” said the Ninth District Representative, who did not say exactly where the new buildings will be constructed.
Bigger applause expected
Following the statement, persons in the audience showed no enthusiasm towards the news of this initiative.
“I expected a bigger applause than that because this is something we should be proud of. This is indeed a proud moment for the community of Virgin Gorda and this will finally set right the controversial issues of mixing the primary school age kids with the high school age kids at the BFEC,” said the concerned Dr O’Neal.
According to Dr O’Neal, who has come under fire from residents for allegedly not being visible and not getting enough done in his district, the high school division will occupy the entire existing campus. As a result, the new grade 12 implementation will have extra classrooms to facilitate the incoming students:
“Therefore, no need to build extra classrooms because the space is already there. So don’t mind the noise. We getting things done here in Virgin Gorda.”
During his speech, Hon O’Neal said he is extremely proud of the Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn, for his efforts in making the necessary adjustments for the educational system in the Territory.
“He is determined to create a world class system of education in this country, where our graduates will be competitive with anyone in this world. It will help us as a developing country to build a strong robust economy that will be managed by our own people,” explained Dr O’Neal.
The District 9 Representative also expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Ministry of Education for playing their part in “fine tuning” the Territory’s educational system.
Hon Walwyn, during a sitting in the House of Assembly in April 2017, stated that the BEFC primary division project will cost $382,553.35.

Interesting how Walwyn said "will cost" vs. is estimated to cost. Would be a first to get a project done within budget.
Because voting them back in office was a real dumb thing we have done. As one politician has said, tell the people what they will like to hear and you win them forever. Bertie had no calling in political office. The people of the ninth was really blindfolded
Up and down grinning he damm teeth! Smh
By the way Mr. O'Neal what kind of engineering that is on St Thomas Bay DOCK. I can't believe you sit back and allow such. I would never think the Ports Authority would see this and approve such. Mr. Minister for communication and works I can't believe this happen under your watch. I nearly brake my back last week walking from dock to tent. Man you can do better engineering than that. The blind can see this is bad engineering. What is it you waiting for to fix it. I'm asking the question is it to give away tax payers money. It need fixing immediately. Hate me for this if you want but this is foolishness.
