‘Don’t despair; you will be hearing from us’- Opposition Leader
The Opposition team of Hon Fraser and senior Virgin Islands Party member Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) have come in for criticism from certain sections of the public for reportedly being passive in the House of Assembly and not representing the public on pressing issues such as the controversial National Health Insurance (NHI) scheduled to come on stream on January 1, 2016 and the ongoing delays and over runs at the multi-million dollar BVI Ports Authority project.
“As I said the PAC (Public Accounts Committee) will be on track rather soon et cetera and we are going into the holiday season now and then budget time is coming up but tell the people not to despair and I can tell them myself. I can tell you that the Opposition will be doing its work. You will be hearing from us,” Hon Fraser said on the Morning Ride Show on Zrod 103.7 FM with host Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart on November 3, 2015.
It remains unclear, however, if the wounds have healed between Hon Fraser and Hon Fahie following their fight for the Opposition Leader’s post.
Following the 2015 general election that saw the VIP defeated by the ruling NDP in a 11 to 2 margin, Hon Fahie led a ‘coup d’état’ against Hon Fraser. Some seven (7) members who ran with the Virgin Islands Party, including Hon Fahie, signed a petition to the Governor for Hon Fahie to be named Opposition Leader.
After the two Opposition Members could not reach an agreement, the UK appointed Governor John S. Duncan OBE appointed Hon Fraser to the post.
