Locales plagued with low skill workers and prolonged unemployment normally are plagued with violent and property crimes. Are these factors fueling the rising crime? Or is it laziness or impatience or trying to emulate the lifestyle that is seen on TV or a change in our culture or quest for materialism? Whatever the cause(s), it is time to arrest it? We cannot only try to incarcerate our way out of this crisis. We must harden our physical security posture along our coast line. We must reduce the number of boats coming into our waters without clearing customs. We must increase searches. It is time to rally the nation, for our way of life, standard of living and quality of life is at risk.
