Divinity Roxx rocks VI
It’s not a matter of public relations but the raw fact when one may say that Divinity Roxx put on one of the highest tempo performances that ever hit the stages of the Virgin Islands and was so aptly described as a concert with a different flavor of music that had an overwhelming response and reception by a uniquely blended audience.
Divinity Roxx mixes an eclectic style of music steeped in elements of rhythm and blues, hip-hop, funk, soul, and rock. The Atlanta, Georgia native has performed on stage with world-renowned artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, George Michael, and Destiny’s Child. In 2006, Divinity joined Beyoncé’s all-female band as Musical Director and bassist. She had the opportunity to tour the world and is featured in Beyoncé’s current DVD collection, The Beyoncé Experience (2008), I Am…Sasha Fierce (2010), and I Am…Yours (2010).
Last night’s hit song was ‘Ghetto Rock’.
"It’s been incredible, the crowd was into it and everybody treated me like a super star and I really appreciate that." Roxx said.
She couldn't stop talking about the moments spent with students of the Elmore Stout High School, some sessions which had moved her to tears.
"Ah man they brought tears to my eyes when I walked into the room I felt nothing but love, it was so thick with love, being there and sharing my experience as an artist and being able to inspire the younger generation."
The most inspiring moment was when Roxx learnt that she was 15 year old Thea Cooke's hero and favourite artist. The ESHS student is superb on the bass guitar and made her debut appearance on stage last night, sending the crowd wild.
"Look at her she is so full of innocence and talent, the BVI has got talent. Go Thea girl we love you, play on baby," yelled a patron from the crowd.
She told Virgin Islands News online that prior to Bayside Rhythm's invitation, the Virgin Islands was nowhere on her radar as a destination that she would have visited, "Coming to the Islands definitely was," but after this trip there is no need to ask the question as she most definitely will be back. "Very often you can count on that. I am trying to move here girl come on no kidding about," she said.
And according to the concert manager, Mr Wasi Philbert, Roxx is now an official co-opted member for life of Bayside Rhythm's group. He was overwhelmed by the response of the crowd last night. "You people were great tonight, you came out for a show with a difference, you got it, you enjoyed it and we the Bayside Rhythms team are so happy that we were able to do it for you," he told the crowd.
"They say ghetto rock will never happen in the BVI, people look at it, we had a real grass roots thing going here tonight that everyone enjoyed and we got more."
He announced that while last night's presentation was their second, the third to come will feature the reggae band 'Third world' on July 6, 2013 which he anticipates will be off the hook. "BVI on the 6th July, 2013 they are not going to Jamaica, not to New York, they are not going for that anniversary anywhere else in the Caribbean or the world but right here on these grounds to celebrate with us here in Tortola." said an obviously happy Mr Philbert.
Bayside Rhythms said they decided to do something different as, "folks are just tired of the same old, same old and you have to try to please consumers. We have a concert series and for this second one we decided it’s going to be rock. There are folks who appreciate rock and something that is more contemporary rock hip hop, that kind of thing."
He described it as "just a roll of the dice" to trying something new and was grateful to other members of the Bayside Rhythms team members, Kamau Georges and Dalan Vanterpool, whose roles were skillfully executed.
The night also featured the young and aspiring artist McKenzie Baltimore Jr, who will be doing an album with Roxx and the intriguing group 'Hot Sauce'.

Now Bat cave made money last night!!! This is a calypso town not rock n Roll, figure it out. With all the advertising, promotions and radio ads you got ya A$$ beat by a USVI Calypsonian and a DJ, over 400 people easy...
Sorry to tell you we are really had more then our share of 3rd world. Gramps Morgan is much hotter in the Caribbean right now and nobody showed up for him. They were in St. John, at Foxy's Music fest last year, give us a break and get hooked on Phonics Recipe is not spelled Respite...
LOL and the owners of the new club at B** C@v**didn't make any money? Probably not from anything other than the door. The photos of that event showed a whole lot of kids. The one or non drinking type. No wonder they charge $20 to listen to a DJ spin the same ole and ruin decent music that someone else worked hard to create. But hey, if being cramped inside a hot box listening to the same beat is your style then power to you. Hopefully one day you'll do yourself a favor and support the musicians and respect their art.
Ah ah deh yah, fo sure!
Who are you to say how to dress and how not to dress? Perhaps you need to dress less frumpy and more like the 21st century rather than the late 1800's.
I wonder how many generations here have been having outside children, you quite possibly are the product of one, thus who are you to talk about morals going out of the window. Did you wait until you were married to fornicate or do you have a set of kids with different parents.
I guess you also claim to be a Christian - who are you to judge?
