HANDSOME BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) has invited members of the community to come out and support this month’s cleanup at Handsome Bay.

Scheduled for this Sunday, December 22, 2024, Hon Wheatley told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) these monthly cleanups have been happening in his district, on Virgin Gorda and Anegada, since he took office in 2019.

“I believe in leading by example, I have held a monthly clean up for the last five and a half years. For the four years I was in office and in this new term. Every month there’s a cleanup, there are different areas that we clean,” Hon Wheatley stated proudly.

All are welcomed

The District 9 Representative said recyclables are separated from the garbage and the team works closely with the Solid Waste Department and the Public Works Department.

“We just do our thing,” he said adding that volunteers are encouraged to walk with their gloves.

Volunteers are also encouraged to walk with a reusable water bottle, and dress with long sleeves, long pants and closed shoes.

Meanwhile, community service hours are also available for student volunteers who need them.

Hon Wheatley also said the number of volunteers depend on who the District 9 team is partnering with on a given week and the day.

These cleanups happen on either Saturday or Sunday to accommodate those who are Adventist he explained.

"The numbers will vary from over a hundred to a few dozen...it is something that happens every single month,” he said continuing, “So persons can join us, school students can also come and join us.”

Hon. Whealety has been on the move and the real people know it thats why they voted him back in . The only thing he needs to learn to do is what the others politicans already know. If you dont throw your accomplishments in people faces they think you arent doing anything. His clean up has being going on for years but he just honorably saw that as duty . Some now come out as if its a new invention. It was the same when Hon. Archie Christian was doing the clean up. People did not appreciate it or look at it as a priority .
