District 5 seeing 'works' but lots more to be done – Hon Christopher
Hon Christopher told Virgin Islands News Online that from the weeks leading up to December 2012 a number of roads in her district were completed and some started. “There is always more to do, the district is kind of bigger than you would think and because of the mountainous terrain, especially if rain falls, there is always something demanding so we need a lot more surfacing to be done to enable people to get home in a comfortable manner.”
To highlight the most critical area/s was a challenge for the Honourable District Representative as she said there are quite a number of challenging areas. Hon. Christopher also said that it was very difficult to put a time factor as to when other works would be done because of inevitable and unavoidable setbacks that are likely to occur.
“For example take for instance the Great Mountain area, we are almost there right now, and that was one of the areas that I give a high priority we had to sort out the issue of land encroachment there in one or two areas and then the drainage we just couldn’t repave it. And I know people are going to be happy when it’s finished because a number of motorists use it.”
The Fifth District Representative noted that the traffic to that area is basically heavy especially as persons access the Enis Adams School that is in that area. “You couldn’t escape putting the drainage because it would have been a waste of resources. You put it there; the rain comes and takes it away.”
She said that section of the road has been closed recently to facilitate works. “So soon it’s going to be smooth there and I am so happy about that. But we have other areas that most definitely have to be addressed and the minister is cooperating with me and I am very happy about that too. There is a lot to be done and I am hoping that they can be addressed as soon as we can.”
Hon. Christopher noted that every diligent effort is being made to have the issues of the Fifth District addressed also as it relates to the sore problems of efficient water supply being endured by resident and businesses alike. Health issues are also among the challenges being faced by the District and, according to the District Representative Hon Christopher, the challenges are not ones that are isolated but common to those being experienced throughout the Territory.
